Chapter 6 - The Boardroom Betrayal

The emergency board meeting took place forty-eight hours later.
Alexander arrived with three attorneys.
He still wore confidence like armor, but Vivian could see the cracks now.
His hands were too still.
His voice was too controlled.
His lawyers spoke first.
They argued that the expenses were legitimate business development costs. They suggested Madison’s invoices had been misunderstood. They claimed Vivian’s public accusation was an emotional reaction to marital conflict.
Vivian listened without interrupting.
Then Thomas Hart placed the recording on the table.
Alexander’s voice filled the boardroom.
Vivian will never fight. She has too much pride to make a scene.
Nobody spoke after it ended.
Vivian looked at the board members.
“My husband used my silence as a business strategy,” she said. “He believed I would protect him because I wanted to protect this company.”
She placed a second document in front of them.
“But protecting Ashford Crown means protecting it from him.”
The forensic audit revealed more than the foundation payments.
Alexander had transferred company contracts to firms connected to Madison’s friends.
He had inflated renovation costs at three hotels.
He had used private jets for personal trips and classified them as donor outreach.
He had attempted to mortgage part of the Ashford Crown estate portfolio without the trust’s approval.
The board voted unanimously.
Alexander was removed as chairman.
His executive access was revoked.
His company accounts were frozen.
Vivian became interim chief executive officer of Ashford Crown Hotels.
Alexander stared at her across the table.
“You always wanted my position.”
Vivian shook her head.
“No. I wanted my marriage. You made me choose between that and my mother’s legacy.”
His face hardened.
“You will regret this.”
May you like
Vivian stood.
“No,” she said. “I regret waiting this long.”
