Chapter 3 - The Interrogation of the Viper

Leaving a dozen of my best men to guard Sofia and my son, I took the private elevator down to the subterranean parking garage. The air was damp and smelled of exhaust. My black SUV was parked in the darkest corner, the engine idling quietly.
I opened the back door and climbed inside. Bianca was handcuffed to the heavy metal grab handle above the door, her face streaked with ruined mascara, trembling violently. Matteo sat in the front seat, staring straight ahead, completely unfazed.
"Let's have a conversation, Bianca," I said, my voice completely devoid of emotion.
"Adrian, I did it for us!" she sobbed, straining against the cuffs. "You were so unhappy! She couldn't give you what you needed, and I loved you! I just wanted to make you happy!"
"You bribed a medical professional to falsify my wife's lab results," I stated flatly. "You forged my signature to destroy the embryos we had created. You orchestrated the collapse of my marriage. And then, miraculously, you got pregnant just three months after my divorce."
I leaned closer, the scent of her expensive perfume now making me violently nauseous. "I underwent a private medical screening last week for a life insurance policy, Bianca. The doctor noted that my sperm count has drastically dropped due to the stress medications I’ve been taking since the divorce. It's nearly impossible for me to naturally conceive right now. So, I am going to ask you one time, and if you lie to me, Matteo is going to take you to the docks."
Her eyes widened in absolute terror.
"Whose baby are you carrying?"
Bianca clamped her mouth shut, shaking her head. I sighed, reaching over and unbuckling my suit jacket. "Matteo. Start the car."
"Wait! Wait!" she screamed, thrashing against the door. "It's Julian! It's Julian's baby!"
The name hit me like a physical blow to the chest. Julian was my underboss. My cousin. The man I had trusted to run the southern territories of our syndicate.
"Julian," I repeated, the pieces rapidly falling into place. Julian had always resented my rise to power. He knew that without an heir, my grip on the syndicate was vulnerable. If he could plant his own child in my house, pretending it was mine, he would eventually control the entire empire through Bianca.
"He paid Dr. Evans," Bianca whimpered, tears pouring down her chin. "He arranged the wire transfers. He told me that if I seduced you and got pregnant by him, we would rule the city together. I'm sorry, Adrian. He made me do it!"

I stared at her in absolute disgust. "You are a parasite. But luckily for you, I don't kill pregnant women."
I stepped out of the SUV and looked at Matteo through the rolled-down window. "Drive her to the state line. Dump her at a bus station with nothing but the clothes on her back. If she ever steps foot in Chicago again, bury her."
