Chapter 8: The Trojan Horse

Dante stepped out of the dressing room, adjusting the cuffs of the charcoal jacket. He turned toward the tri-fold mirrors, a look of arrogant satisfaction spreading across his face.
The suit fit him like a second skin. The ballistic canvas and Kevlar threading gave the garment a sharp, militaristic structure without sacrificing the elegance of the Italian wool. It made him look broader, taller, and infinitely more dangerous.
It was the best work I had ever done. It was also his death warrant.
"Impressive," Dante murmured, running his hands down the lapels. His right hand brushed directly over the hidden micro-transmitter. My breath caught in my throat for a fraction of a second, but I kept my face entirely impassive. He felt nothing. "You have a gift, Mrs. Rossi. It’s a shame you wasted it on a coward like Noah."
"Noah is many things, Mr. Silva," I said, stepping onto the platform with a piece of tailor’s chalk, pretending to inspect a hem. "But a coward is not one of them. He simply evolved."
Dante scoffed, admiring his reflection. "Evolution is a myth in this city. You are either the predator or the prey. Tonight, I take the ports. By next month, I take everything Noah left behind. And if your husband gets in my way, I will make sure you are wearing black for the rest of your life."
I stood up, brushing a piece of lint from his shoulder, standing mere inches from a man who was actively planning my husband's murder. I didn't tremble. I looked at him with the cold, detached curiosity of an executioner.
"You look ready for your meeting, Mr. Silva," I said smoothly. "The suit is yours. I will bill your office."
"Don't hold your breath," Dante sneered. He didn't even bother taking it off. He walked out of the shop, wearing the Trojan Horse directly into the heart of his own empire.
The moment the door chimed shut, Noah stepped out from the back room. The tension radiating from him was so intense it felt physically oppressive. He walked over to me, wrapping his arms tightly around my waist, burying his face in my neck, inhaling deeply as if confirming I was still alive.
"He is gone," I whispered, resting my hands on his chest.
"Vance just confirmed the signal," Noah said, pulling back to look at me, his eyes burning with a mixture of absolute relief and terrifying pride. "The audio is crystal clear. The FBI task force is already moving into position around the Azure Lounge. They have tactical teams on every exit."
"Then we wait," I said.
We locked the shop early and drove to a secure, unmarked FBI surveillance van parked four blocks away from the Azure Lounge. Agent Vance allowed us inside due to Noah’s status as a critical cooperating witness.
The inside of the van smelled of stale coffee and ozone. Six agents sat wearing heavy headphones, staring at glowing monitors that tracked Dante’s movement.
"He just entered the private dining room," Vance announced, adjusting a dial on the audio receiver. "Target is making contact with the union leaders."
Dante’s voice suddenly crackled through the speakers, loud and perfectly clear, transmitted directly from the lapel of the suit I had made.
"Gentlemen, sit down," Dante’s recorded voice echoed in the van. "We have a lot of paperwork to get through tonight. The transfer deeds for the Brooklyn shipping manifests are on the table."
"We aren't signing these, Dante," another voice, shaking slightly, replied. "This is extortion. You can't just take our livelihoods."
A chilling laugh came through the speaker. "I’m not asking for your permission, Marcus. I have men waiting outside your daughter's elementary school. You will sign the deeds, and you will route thirty percent of all port profits into my shell accounts in the Caymans, or you will be attending a very small funeral on Monday."
Agent Vance ripped her headphones off, her eyes wide with adrenaline. "That’s it. That’s the explicit extortion threat, combined with interstate wire fraud conspiracy. We have him dead to rights."
"Move in!" Vance shouted into her radio. "All teams, breach the perimeter! Go, go, go!"
Through the audio feed, we heard the sudden, explosive sound of reinforced doors being kicked open. FBI agents screamed commands.
"Federal Agents! Drop your weapons! Get your hands on the table!"
There was a scuffle. The sound of a table flipping over. Dante screamed obscenities.
"How did you know?!" Dante roared through the lapel mic, his voice frantic with terror. "How did you get in here?!"
Noah leaned toward the radio transmitter on Vance’s desk, pressing the secure override button.

"You should have tipped your tailor, Dante," Noah’s deep, menacing voice broadcasted directly into the earpieces of the tactical team, loud enough for Dante to hear in the chaos of the room.
The audio feed cut to static as Dante was tackled to the floor, the micro-transmitter crushing under the weight of federal justice.
