📖 CHAPTER 4: DOMINIC FALLS FIRST

That night, Mara confronted Dominic.

She didn’t knock.

She didn’t wait.

She entered the study and threw the photograph onto his desk.

“Explain this.”

Dominic looked at it.

Then closed his eyes.

For a long time.

“I didn’t want you to see that yet,” he said.

Mara’s voice broke slightly.

“You don’t get to decide what I see anymore.”

Silence.

Then Dominic nodded.

“Fair.”

A pause.

Then he opened a hidden panel in the wall.

Inside:

A recording device.

Active.

THE SURVEILLANCE REVELATION

Dominic pressed play.

Celeste’s voice filled the room.

Not from today.

From months ago.

“We don’t kill the father directly,” she said.

“We redirect him.”

A pause.

Then:

“Make him build the system that will bury him.”

Mara stepped back slightly.

Dominic’s voice was quiet.

“That’s how your father ended up inside our supply chain.”

Mara stared at him.

“You were part of it.”

“No,” Dominic said immediately.

A pause.

Then softer:

“I inherited it.”

That distinction mattered.

Too much.

THE FIRST ALLIANCE

For the first time, Mara didn’t see Dominic as enemy or master.

She saw him as something more unstable.

A man trying to undo what he had been born into.

“You want her gone,” Mara said.

Dominic nodded.

“I want the entire structure exposed.”

Mara looked at him.

“And me?”

A pause.

Then honesty.

“You are the only person she didn’t control.”

That was the beginning of the shift.

May you like

Not trust.

But alignment.
