Chapter 4 - The Financial Execution

The fallout over the next thirty days was spectacular and merciless.
Because Daniel and Jessica worked for a highly reputable international logistics firm, the corporate backlash was immediate. My attorney didn't just file for divorce; she filed a massive civil suit naming Jessica as a co-conspirator in an attempt to defraud my estate. The lawsuit became public record.
Within forty-eight hours, Daniel was called into his CEO’s office. He walked in expecting to use his usual charm to explain away the "messy divorce." Instead, he was met by corporate security and the head of human resources. When the company’s legal department reviewed the subpoenaed messages—messages that proved Daniel had been embezzling company funds to pay for Jessica’s luxury apartments—they didn't just fire him. They handed the internal audit directly to the FBI.
Jessica suffered the exact same fate. She was escorted out of her office in tears, carrying a cardboard box, utterly disgraced in her industry. She turned on Daniel immediately, frantically offering to testify against him in exchange for immunity regarding the fraud charges, completely shattering their twisted, toxic romance.
But my most satisfying victory was against Margaret.
Margaret had lived beyond her means for decades, relying heavily on Daniel to funnel my money into her accounts to maintain her country club membership and her luxury lease. The moment I froze the joint accounts and severed the financial cord, her entire world imploded. Her credit cards declined at high society luncheons. Her luxury sedan was repossessed in the middle of the night.
When the restraining order forced her out of my guest room, she had nowhere to go. She ended up renting a cheap, run-down motel room on the outskirts of the city, her aristocratic pride utterly decimated. She tried to call my sister, begging for a meeting to "apologize," but my sister simply hung up the phone.
Daniel was formally arrested a week after I left the hospital. The police showed up at his cheap apartment and led him out in handcuffs. The text messages plotting to gaslight me and steal my son provided undeniable proof of his malicious intent, nullifying his defense that my fall was an accident. The District Attorney pushed for maximum penalties, and without my money to pay for high-powered defense lawyers, Daniel was forced to rely on an overworked public defender.

He wrote me letters from jail. Desperate, pathetic letters begging for forgiveness, claiming he was manipulated by Jessica, claiming he still loved me.
I didn't open a single one. I fed them directly into my paper shredder.
