Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Execution and the Fall of the King

Daniel did not arrive.
Instead, the heavy double doors swung open, and I walked in, flanked by Evelyn Thorne and Marcus. I was wearing a commanding, tailored white suit, projecting an aura of untouchable authority.
The room fell completely silent. Several board members recognized me from company galas, but they had never seen me looking like this. I was no longer the quiet, polite wife standing in the shadows. I was the executioner.
"Mrs. Mercer," the Chairman of the Board, an older, stern man named Harrison Cole, said, standing up in confusion. "Daniel isn't here yet. Is there an emergency?"
"There is a catastrophic emergency, Harrison," I said, walking directly to the head of the table where Daniel usually sat. "But Daniel will not be joining us today. He is currently in his attorney's office, finalizing the complete surrender of his custodial rights and marital assets. I am here today not as his wife, but as an independent forensic auditor bringing a critical breach of fiduciary duty to your immediate attention."
Marcus stepped forward, handing a thick, bound dossier to Harrison, while Evelyn distributed copies to every single board member at the table.
"Over the past eleven months, your Chief Executive Officer has embezzled four hundred and fifty thousand dollars of your operational expansion capital," I announced, my voice steady, clear, and ringing with undeniable truth. "He utilized his Vice President of Brand Strategy, Vanessa Reed, to establish a fraudulent shell company to funnel corporate funds for personal use, including real estate acquisitions and luxury goods."
The boardroom erupted into chaos. Executives were rapidly flipping through the pages, their eyes widening as they saw the undeniable, hard evidence: the wire transfers, the IP logs, the fraudulent invoices.
"This is impossible," the CFO muttered, his face turning pale. "The external auditors just cleared our quarterly reports."
"The external auditors were reviewing sanitized ledgers provided directly by Daniel," Marcus interjected smoothly. "If you look at page fourteen, you will see the exact methodology he used to bypass your dual-signature protocols by categorizing the theft as micro-consulting fees under the discretionary threshold."
Harrison Cole stared at the documents, his hands trembling with rage. He looked up at me, the reality of the betrayal sinking in. "He used company money to fund his affair."
"He used your money," I corrected. "I am providing you with this evidence today so that you can immediately freeze his corporate accounts, terminate his employment for cause, and contact federal authorities before he has the opportunity to liquidate his remaining stock options and flee."
"And Vanessa Reed?" another board member asked, his voice dripping with disgust.
"Ms. Reed is scheduled to arrive at her office in ten minutes," I replied, checking my watch. "I suggest you have corporate security waiting for her at the elevator."

The execution was swift, brutal, and flawlessly effective. By noon that day, Daniel Mercer was officially terminated as CEO of Mercer Hospitality. Corporate security escorted a hysterical, sobbing Vanessa Reed out of the building in front of hundreds of employees, carrying her belongings in a cardboard box. By 3:00 PM, the corporate attorneys had filed an emergency injunction freezing all of Daniel’s financial assets, and a formal complaint had been submitted to the FBI’s financial crimes division.
Daniel had spent nineteen years building his empire on the assumption that he was the smartest man in the room. It took me exactly four hours to burn it to the ground.
