Chapter 2 - The Biological Impossibility

I flipped to the second page. It was a financial audit.
"Because Mark hid thirty thousand dollars to bribe a doctor during our marriage, it constitutes a massive breach of our divorce settlement," David explained, his voice turning sharp with legal anticipation. "He committed marital fraud. The non-disclosure voids the asset division. We can take him back to court and legally strip him of the house, the investments, and his company shares."
But I wasn't looking at the financial audit. My mind was doing basic, biological math.
Total and irreversible sterility.
I looked up at David, my pulse hammering against my ribs.
"David," I whispered. "Mark is upstairs right now. With Jessica. And a one-year-old baby boy with blonde curls."
David’s eyebrows rose slowly. The realization hit him a second after it hit me.
If Mark Reynolds had absolutely zero sperm count... then the child he was parading around the hospital, the child he had destroyed our marriage for, the child he was using as a weapon to mock my "infertile" body... was not his.
"Oh, my God," David murmured.
I closed the folder. The profound exhaustion I had felt upstairs instantly evaporated, replaced by a cold, blinding clarity. Jessica's strange behavior in the hallway suddenly made perfect sense. She wasn't just feeling guilty for sleeping with my husband. She was terrified because she knew she had trapped a wealthy man with another man's child.
"David," I said, my voice completely steady. "Mark is attending the hospital's annual donor gala tonight. File the injunction to freeze his assets immediately. And make sure you have a courier ready."

"What are you going to do?" David asked.
I looked at the elevator banks. "I'm going to cure his ignorance."
