Chapter 4 - The Diamond Shatters

The federal agents didn't waste time on pleasantries. They marched directly through the parted crowd, grabbing Julian by the arms.
“Julian Duval, you are under arrest for massive wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, and the falsification of financial documents,” the lead agent stated, his voice flat and uncompromising.
“No! Wait! Let me call my lawyers!” Julian begged, thrashing violently as the heavy steel handcuffs were aggressively clicked around his wrists. “Dalia, call the firm! Tell them to wire the retainer!”
Dalia did not reach for her phone. The twenty-six-year-old mistress who had happily homewrecked my marriage for a billionaire lifestyle stared at the weeping, handcuffed man in front of her with sheer, unfiltered disgust.
She realized instantly that the massive diamond on her finger was purchased with stolen money. She realized the lavish vacations, the designer clothes, and the social status were all evaporating into a federal indictment.
Dalia didn't say a single word. She reached down, yanked the massive diamond ring off her finger, and threw it directly at Julian’s chest. It hit his tuxedo shirt and bounced onto the marble floor, rolling away into the shadows. Without a backward glance, she turned and pushed her way through the crowd, abandoning him to the wreckage of his own arrogant creation.
Julian fell to his knees as the agents dragged him toward the exit, sobbing openly, begging for a mercy he had never once shown me.
“Khloe, please!” he wailed, twisting his head to look at me on the stage. “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!”

I looked down at him. I placed my hand over my pregnant stomach, feeling the strong, undeniable flutter of my son moving beneath my palm.
“Enjoy the headlines, Julian,” I whispered.
