Chapter 4 - The Dynasty

The hallway fell dead silent. Dr. Miller stood frozen against the counter, completely paralyzed.

Dominic took a slow, deep breath, dismissing his men with a subtle nod. The door clicked shut, leaving us alone in the dim glow of the ultrasound monitor.

The ruthless, terrifying monster who had just dismantled a man's entire life vanished. When Dominic turned back to me, his dark eyes were burning with a fierce, possessive heat that completely swallowed the air in the room.

He walked to the examination chair and gently, reverently, placed his large, warm hand directly over the curve of my stomach.

I stopped breathing.

"You ran from me," Dominic murmured, leaning down until his lips were inches from mine, his thumb softly brushing my skin through the fabric of my sweater.

"I thought it was just one night," I confessed, my voice trembling as I looked into the eyes of Chicago's most dangerous man. "I didn't think a man like you wanted a family."

Dominic’s expression softened into something fiercely protective.

"I didn't want a family, Chloe," he vowed, his hand slipping around to cup the back of my neck, anchoring me to him. "I wanted you. I have had my men tearing this city apart for four months trying to find the woman who slipped out of my bed."

He looked at the black-and-white screen, watching the rapid flutter of his child's heartbeat. A real, breathtaking smile touched his lips.

"You aren't hiding anymore," Dominic stated, his voice a vow of absolute authority and devotion. "You are coming home with me. You will never be mocked, you will never be unprotected, and you will never carry my empire alone again."

I looked at the king of the underworld claiming our child, and for the first time since Derek left me, I knew I was exactly where I belonged.
