Chapter 2 - The Master Override

I didn't cry. I sat at the kitchen table, staring at the zero balance, and felt a cold, magnificent fire ignite in my chest.
I walked into the living room, opened my laptop, and logged into the master servers of the software I had built from the ground up. Daniel had changed all the administrative passwords, assuming his basic IT knowledge was enough to lock me out of my own creation.
He was an idiot.
When I coded the beta version of the algorithm that Daniel had stolen, I built it with a highly encrypted, invisible backdoor protocol. I bypassed his flimsy new firewalls in less than four minutes.
I didn't delete his files. I didn't destroy the company. That was petty, illegal revenge. I was going to do something entirely legal, and infinitely more devastating.
I initiated a hard lock on the core machine-learning updates. I effectively severed the stolen beta version from the true, evolving algorithm that lived safely on my encrypted private drive. By Monday morning, Daniel and Sarah would launch their "revolutionary" new tech agency using a static, decaying piece of software that would rapidly crash under heavy corporate use.
Then, I picked up my phone and called Marcus Sterling, my former boss and one of the most ruthless venture capitalists in Chicago.
"Elena?" Marcus answered, surprised to hear from me at 3:00 AM. "Is everything alright?"
May you like
"Daniel left me, Marcus. He drained my accounts and tried to steal the algorithm," I said, my voice razor-sharp and devoid of emotion. "But I have the master code. The real one. And I am ready to build an empire. I need seed funding, and I need the best corporate litigator in your arsenal."
Marcus didn't hesitate for a single second. "I’ll have a car outside your building at 8:00 AM. Bring the girls. Let's go to war."
