Chapter 4 - The Eviction of the King

Desperate, humiliated, and locked out of his luxury condo, Ricardo had only one option. He ordered an Uber—because his Mercedes had mysteriously vanished from the hospital parking lot—and brought his mistress, his newborn son, and his mother directly to my house.

I was waiting for them.

I stood on the front porch, the exterior lights blazing, flanking me like spotlights. Beside me stood Gabriel, my attorney, and two uniformed private security officers.

The Uber pulled into the driveway. Ricardo stepped out, looking like a man who was actively having a heart attack. He saw the security guards and froze. Daniela emerged carefully, clutching the baby, while Elvira struggled out of the back seat.

“Mariana!” Ricardo shouted, rushing up the driveway. “What the hell is going on?! Where is my car? Why is my card declining? What did you do to the loan documents?!”

I looked at him. The man I had loved for seventeen years. The man who had betrayed me, lied to me, and tried to steal my daughter's future.

“The loan documents were signed with disappearing ink, Ricardo,” I said smoothly, my voice echoing in the cool night air. “Because the seven million pesos belongs to me. This house belongs to me. And as of this morning, all the money in the joint accounts that I earned belongs to me.”

Daniela stopped walking. She stared at me, then looked at Ricardo in absolute horror. “Your money? Ricardo told me he was a millionaire. He told me he was buying us a penthouse!”

“Ricardo is drowning in debt,” I corrected her, looking at the young, naive woman who had helped destroy my family. “He embezzled company funds to buy you jewelry, Daniela. He tried to forge my signature to steal my inheritance to pay it back. He’s not a king. He’s a parasite.”

Elvira gasped, clutching her chest. “Mariana! How dare you speak to my son this way! He gave you a beautiful life! You owe us!”

“I owe you nothing, Elvira,” I snapped, my eyes locking onto my mother-in-law. “You held my hand in that hospital and begged me to stay so your son could sneak his pregnant mistress into the maternity ward. You traded seventeen years of my loyalty for a grandson. So now, you can rely on your son to provide for you.”

I gestured to the open garage door. Thirty cardboard boxes sat neatly stacked on the concrete floor.

“Your belongings are in the garage, Ricardo,” Gabriel, my lawyer, announced, stepping forward. “You are officially evicted from this property. The divorce papers, along with a restraining order citing financial abuse and attempted fraud, are sitting on top of box number one.”

“You can’t do this!” Ricardo screamed, lunging toward the porch.

The two security guards instantly intercepted him, shoving him back forcefully onto the driveway.

“I have nowhere to go!” Ricardo sobbed, the reality of his absolute ruin finally crashing down upon him. He looked at Daniela, who was backing away from him, shaking her head in disgusted realization. He looked at his mother, who was weeping in the driveway. “Mariana, please! I’m your husband!”

“You stopped being my husband the moment you prioritized another woman's comfort over my survival,” I said, turning my back on him. “Take your boxes and get off my property. If you’re still here in ten minutes, the guards will call the police.”

I walked back inside my beautiful, safe home, closed the heavy oak door, and locked the deadbolt. The sound of the lock clicking into place was the most beautiful symphony I had ever heard.
