Chapter 3 - The Liquidation

My father stood up. The grief vanished from his face, replaced instantly by the cold, calculating ruthlessness that had made him a billionaire.

He finally turned to look at Matthew, who was still pinned against the wall by Henderson, gasping for air, his face pale with terror.

"Arthur," Matthew choked out, trying to sound reasonable. "Arthur, please, let me explain. Clare was hysterical, she attacked me—"

My father didn't raise his voice. He didn't need to.

"You hit my daughter," my father stated flatly, glancing down at the antique cane on the floor.

He reached into his overcoat and pulled out his phone. He dialed a number, put it on speaker, and held it up. It was 11:45 p.m.

"Marcus," my father said into the phone.

"Yes, Mr. Sterling?" a crisp voice answered immediately.

"NexusCore," my father said, never breaking eye contact with Matthew. "I want their supply line cut. I want the mezzanine debt called in. They are currently seeking a Series C funding round with Vanguard. I want you to kill it. Call the board members. Remind them who owns their commercial leases. I want Matthew Hayes bankrupted before the Tokyo markets open."

Matthew’s eyes bulged out of his head. "Arthur, no! You can't do that! NexusCore is my life! Lauren... the Hamptons house, the company accounts are tied to it!"

"Execute it," my father said, ignoring him completely.

"Consider it done, sir," Marcus replied. The line went dead.
