Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Guillotine

For forty-eight agonizing hours, Flynn Vance was a man wandering through a nightmare of his own making. Without access to a single dollar of the empire he thought he controlled, he was forced to drain the meager remaining balances in his personal checking accounts just to keep the lights on in Selina’s luxury apartment. He frantically called every high-powered corporate litigator in New York, demanding they sue me, but the moment they saw my name on the Trust documents, they hung up. No lawyer in the city was stupid enough to go to war against a bulletproof, irrevocable trust designed by Mabel Vance.

Desperate, humiliated, and backed into a corner, Flynn invoked his last remaining contractual right as a minority shareholder: he demanded an emergency hearing with the Board of Directors.

He believed he could charm them. He believed he could paint me as a hysterical, postpartum woman who had illegally hijacked the company servers in a fit of hormonal rage. He thought the old boys' club would rally behind him to protect the patriarchal legacy of the Vance name.

On Wednesday morning, the emergency board meeting convened in the breathtaking, panoramic conference room on the sixtieth floor. Twelve of the most ruthless, wealthy investors in the country sat around the mahogany table. Flynn stood at the head of the room, sweating through his wrinkled suit, desperately trying to project authority.

"Gentlemen, I apologize for this unprecedented disruption in our operations," Flynn began, pacing nervously. "My wife has unfortunately suffered a severe psychological break following the birth of our child. She has illegally manipulated the corporate bylaws to freeze my assets. I am asking the board for an immediate vote of no confidence to forcibly remove her from the trust and restore my executive powers."

The heavy, frosted glass doors of the boardroom swung open.

The low murmurs of the executives instantly died.

I walked into the room. I was not wearing a hospital gown, nor did I look like a broken, hysterical victim. I wore a tailored, razor-sharp emerald pantsuit. My hair was styled in an immaculate, sleek blowout, and I walked in custom Louboutins that echoed like a judge's gavel against the hardwood floor. Flanking me were Phoebe and two massive private security contractors.

I looked at the men sitting at the table, radiating a cold, untouchable power that commanded absolute silence.

"Mabel," Flynn choked out, his face turning a sickly shade of gray. He took a step toward me, raising his hand. "You have to stop this. You're destroying my company!"

"Sit down, Flynn," I commanded, my voice dropping into a lethal, quiet register that made even the oldest billionaire at the table sit up straight.

I walked past him, taking my rightful place at the absolute head of the table. I dropped a massive, thousand-page financial dossier onto the mahogany surface with a resounding thud.

"Gentlemen of the board," I announced, projecting my voice with crystal clarity. "I have not suffered a psychological break. I have simply initiated a long-overdue financial audit of the CEO's discretionary spending. What I discovered was catastrophic."

I pressed a button on a remote. The massive digital screens behind me flared to life, displaying high-resolution scans of offshore wire transfers, luxury real estate leases, and exorbitant credit card statements.

"Over the past eighteen months, Flynn Vance has illegally embezzled over twelve million dollars from corporate operational funds," I narrated, watching the board members' faces turn from curiosity to sheer, unadulterated horror. "He used this money to purchase a private townhouse for his mistress, Selina Mercer. He used corporate funds to pay for luxury vehicles, designer jewelry, and private medical care for an illegitimate child he kept hidden from the public and from his legal wife."

Flynn physically lunged forward, his eyes wild with panic. "That's a lie! Those were legitimate consultant expenses! She's forging the documents!"

"They are certified bank records, Flynn," Phoebe interjected sharply, sliding a notarized affidavit across the table. "Signed by the Vice President of Chase Manhattan."

I leaned forward, placing both hands firmly on the table. "According to Section 4, Paragraph B of the Vance Family Trust, which Flynn enthusiastically signed five years ago, any gross fiduciary negligence or embezzlement of corporate funds results in the immediate, unilateral termination of his employment, and the total forfeiture of his shares back into the primary trust."

I looked directly into Flynn’s terrified, trembling eyes. The arrogant man who had stood in my delivery room and disinherited my daughter was now completely, utterly powerless.

"You are fired, Flynn," I said, a dark, victorious smile finally touching my lips. "You own absolutely nothing. You are stripped of your title, your salary, and your dignity. Security, please escort this man out of my building."

"No! No, you can't do this to me!" Flynn screamed, tears of absolute desperation streaming down his face as the two security guards grabbed his arms, lifting him forcefully off the ground. "Mabel, please! I'm the father of your child! You can't leave me with nothing!"

"You told me you wanted a male heir for the Vance empire," I whispered, stepping close enough for him to smell my expensive perfume. "Well, your little boy can inherit whatever loose change you have left in your pockets. Because my daughter owns the rest."

As they dragged a sobbing, thrashing Flynn out of the boardroom, the executives at the table sat in stunned silence. I slowly turned to face them, smoothing the lapels of my emerald suit.

"Now," I smiled brightly. "Let's review the quarterly projections."
