Chapter 5 - Triumphant

"It's amazing how quickly they leave when the money runs out," Saraphina mused from the tablet screen. "I stayed for three years while you treated me like a ghost. But then again, I had a plan."
Two large security guards stepped into the office, flanked by the woman in the black suit.
"Time to go, Mr. Sterling," one of the guards said, pointing toward the door.
"Saraphina, please," Thatcher begged, tears finally spilling over his eyelashes. The arrogant CEO was completely gone, replaced by a hollow, broken man. "We have a son. Declan needs a father. Don't leave me with nothing."
"Declan has a mother who owns a thirty-five-million-dollar estate, a private tech empire, and a vault full of watches," Saraphina said softly. "He will never want for anything. And as for you... you have exactly what you earned."
She leaned forward, her eyes locking with his through the digital lens.
"I told you I was taking care of business. Now, the business is concluded. Goodbye, Thatcher."
The screen went black.

Thatcher Sterling was dragged out of his own building, clutching a cardboard box of personal items, stepping out onto the New York pavement with absolutely nothing to his name.
A thousand miles away, Saraphina closed her laptop, took a slow sip of her iced coffee, and turned her face toward the warm Florida sun. The air tasted like freedom, and she had never felt more alive.
