Chapter 3 - The Financial Guillotine

The systematic, surgical destruction of Jackson Miller’s fake empire took exactly seventy-two hours.
Equipped with the forged loan documents, Marcus bypassed the local police and went straight to the federal prosecutor's office. Because Jackson had used interstate wire transfers to attempt the fraudulent loan using my out-of-state property, it immediately triggered a federal investigation.
On Wednesday afternoon, I was standing in the sleek, modern conference room of my architectural firm, reviewing blueprints for a new commercial high-rise. My phone buzzed with an incoming call from Marcus.
"The FBI just raided his office in Century City," Marcus announced, the satisfaction evident in his voice. "They seized his hard drives, his ledgers, and his bank records. The private equity firm he tried to defraud was notified, and they are pressing full corporate espionage and fraud charges."
Before I could even process the victory, the heavy glass doors of my firm’s lobby violently burst open.
Genesis stormed into the reception area, looking like a deranged, aristocratic banshee. Her designer clothes were rumpled, her makeup was smeared, and she was screaming my name.
"Clara! Get out here, you vindictive bitch!" Genesis roared, shoving past my terrified receptionist.
I stepped out of the conference room, perfectly calm, flanked by two of my senior partners. "Genesis. You are trespassing."
"You ruined my son!" she shrieked, pointing a shaking, manicured finger at my face. "The feds just froze all of our accounts! They seized my house because Jackson used it as collateral for his business! Tell your lawyers to drop the charges right now, or I will destroy you!"
"You can't destroy a concrete foundation, Genesis," I replied, my voice echoing clearly through the silent office. "Jackson ruined himself. He forged my signature on federal documents to steal my property. And you sat at a dining table and helped him orchestrate the ambush. You aren't a victim. You’re an accomplice."
"He is your husband! You owe him your loyalty!" she sobbed, the reality of her impending homelessness finally crashing down on her.

"He lost my loyalty the second a porcelain plate cracked against my skull," I said, stepping back into the conference room. I looked at my receptionist. "Call building security and the police. Have this woman removed, and file a permanent restraining order."
As the security guards dragged a screaming, hysterical Genesis out of my office building, I felt the last remaining ounce of fear leave my body. They had tried to break me through intimidation and violence. Instead, they had handed me the exact tools I needed to sever their heads.
