Chapter 4 - The Checkmate

The silence in the lobby was deafening. Bennett was no longer looking at a wife he could manipulate; he was looking at an executioner who had just dropped the guillotine on his entire existence.
He had expected me to walk through those doors and scream. "Eleanor, please!" Bennett shrieked as two agents grabbed his arms, aggressively wrenching them behind his back. The heavy steel handcuffs clicked shut with a beautiful, resonant finality. "I'm your husband! Don't let them do this! Tell them it's a mistake!"
"The only mistake I made was believing you possessed an ounce of integrity," I replied, stepping back to give the agents a clear path. "You spent months trying to convince the world that I was unstable. But looking at you right now, screaming in handcuffs in the middle of a lobby you no longer own, I think the guests can see exactly who the unstable one really is."
