Chapter 3 - The Corporate Execution

"The diamond bracelet, Grant?" David asked, his voice dripping with venom. "You billed a forty-thousand-dollar piece of jewelry to the company expansion fund. You wrote off a twelve-month luxury apartment lease in Atlanta as a 'commercial real estate scouting expense.' You embezzled over two hundred thousand dollars of company money to fund your affair."
I opened my mouth, but no sound came out.
"You didn't just cheat on your pregnant wife," David continued. "You committed federal tax fraud and corporate embezzlement. The board voted unanimously an hour ago. You're terminated for cause. You forfeit your equity immediately to cover the stolen funds and the impending legal fines."

"No, Grant," David corrected him coldly. "Corinne built the financial models that got this firm off the ground. We just put our names on the door. Get out."
