Part 2

PART2: The husband’s command shattered the silence.

Within minutes, the family lawyer hurried into the ballroom carrying a sealed folder. The wife’s composure cracked.

“You had no right,” she hissed.

The husband ignored her and tore open the envelope. Inside were hospital records, adoption papers, and one faded photograph. His eyes moved across the page, then stopped.

The boy had been born under another name.

The nanny stepped closer, trembling. “What does it say?”

Before he could answer, the elderly guest pointed to the photograph. It showed a young woman holding a newborn, the same pendant resting against her throat.

The woman was the nanny.

Gasps spread through the hall.

“That’s impossible,” she whispered. “I don’t remember having a child.”

The rich woman suddenly lunged for the papers, but the husband pulled them away. “You knew,” he said, his voice low. “You knew who she was when you hired her.”

Her eyes darted toward the exits.

The nanny pressed a hand to her head as fragments flashed through her mind: a hospital room, bright lights, a crying baby, and the rich woman standing beside her bed.

“You told me he died,” the nanny breathed.

The wife’s face hardened. “You were unstable. You could barely remember your own name.”

The boy stared at her. “You made her forget.”

A terrible stillness followed.

Then the lawyer removed one final document from the folder. “There’s something else.”

It was a medical consent form for an experimental memory treatment, signed seven years earlier.

Not by the nanny.

By the husband.

Everyone turned toward him.

His expression emptied.

The nanny stepped back, clutching the child. “You were part of this?”

The husband looked at his wife, but she was no longer afraid. She smiled.

“You finally remembered,” she said.

Then the mansion doors locked with a heavy metallic click, and armed guards appeared behind the guests.

The wife lifted a small remote.

“This party,” she whispered, “was never for his birthday.”
