Chapter 5 - Out of the Shadows

The aftermath of the invasion was swift and merciless. Dominic’s loyal capos arrived within ten minutes, securing the estate and cleaning up the mess. The two traitorous guards, Carlo and Vince, were dragged into the basement; they would not see the sunrise. The Moretti family was about to face a retaliation so catastrophic it would permanently erase their name from the New York syndicate map.
But inside the estate, a different kind of revolution was taking place.
The next morning, the storm had passed, leaving the sprawling grounds bathed in bright, crisp sunlight. The household staff was buzzing with fearful whispers, scrubbing the floors and repairing the damage to the second-story hallway.
Mrs. Bell was standing in the grand foyer, nervously directing the cleanup crew, when Dominic descended the main staircase. He was wearing a fresh, immaculate black suit, projecting absolute authority.
But he wasn't alone.
Beatrice was walking beside him. She wasn't wearing a shapeless cardigan. She wasn't wearing an oversized uniform. She was wearing a stunning, fitted emerald-green dress that Dominic had ordered from a boutique in Manhattan that morning. It hugged her soft, beautiful curves perfectly, and her dark hair fell in rich, cascading waves over her shoulders. She looked powerful, breathtaking, and entirely unapologetic.
Leo was holding her hand, skipping happily down the stairs, completely unharmed and oblivious to the violence of the night before.
The entire staff froze. Mrs. Bell’s jaw dropped in absolute shock.
Dominic stopped at the bottom of the stairs, his cold, dark eyes sweeping over the assembled staff, lingering specifically on the pale, trembling head housekeeper.
"There are going to be some changes in this house," Dominic announced, his voice echoing in the silent foyer, carrying the undeniable weight of a mafia king. "Effective immediately, Mrs. Bell, your employment is terminated. You have exactly one hour to pack your belongings and vacate the premises. If you attempt to steal a single item on your way out, my men will handle the situation."
Mrs. Bell let out a strangled gasp, tears welling in her eyes, but she didn't dare argue. She turned and fled toward the servant's quarters.
Dominic turned to the rest of the stunned staff.
"Furthermore," Dominic continued, reaching out to gently take Bea’s hand in his, lacing their fingers together for everyone to see. "Beatrice is no longer an employee of this estate. She is the lady of this house. She speaks with my voice. Her orders are my orders. Anyone who shows her disrespect, anyone who dares to treat her as anything less than the matriarch of the Russo family, will answer directly to me. Is that understood?"
A chorus of rapid, terrified "Yes, sir" and "Yes, Mr. Russo" echoed through the foyer.
Dominic nodded, entirely satisfied. He turned to Bea, the cold, ruthless exterior melting away to reveal the deep, profound adoration he held exclusively for her.
"Shall we have breakfast, mia regina?" Dominic asked softly.
Bea smiled, a brilliant, radiant expression that lit up the entire grand hallway. She looked around the magnificent, formidable mansion that used to feel like a prison. It didn't feel like a prison anymore. It felt like her kingdom.
She squeezed his hand, pulling Leo closer to her side.

"Yes, Dominic," Bea replied, her voice steady and confident. "Let's eat."
The invisible maid had finally stepped out of the shadows, shedding the oversized clothes and the polite, fearful smiles. She had danced in the dark, she had fought in the blood, and she had won the heart of the devil himself. Beatrice Gallagher was exactly where she was always meant to be, taking up all the space she deserved, and she would never apologize for it again.
