Chapter 7: The Arrival

Four months later. A brutal winter storm was raging outside the windows of the Hale Infrastructure Medical Wing, but inside the delivery room, it was warm and quiet.
Andrew stood by the head of the hospital bed, his hand completely numb from how tightly Clara had been squeezing it for the last six hours. He had not left her side for a single second. He wiped the sweat from her forehead, whispering words of encouragement, his own eyes wide with a mixture of terror and absolute awe.
"One more push, Clara," the doctor said calmly. "You're almost there."
Clara squeezed her eyes shut. She was exhausted, her body trembling with the sheer physical toll of labor. But as she squeezed Andrew’s hand, she felt his steady, grounding strength pouring into her.
With one final, breathless effort, the silence of the room was shattered. A loud, furious, and incredibly beautiful cry echoed off the walls.
"It's a girl," the doctor smiled, quickly wrapping the infant in a warm blanket.
Andrew burst into tears. He didn't try to hide them. He leaned down and kissed Clara’s forehead, his shoulders shaking with overwhelming joy. The nurse gently laid the crying baby onto Clara’s chest.
Clara looked down. The baby had a shock of dark hair and bright, wide eyes. She was screaming at the top of her lungs, utterly fearless, demanding to be heard by the world she had just entered.
"She's so loud," Clara laughed, tears streaming down her cheeks as she gently touched her daughter’s tiny, perfect hand. "I told you," Andrew wept, leaning in to kiss his daughter’s head. "The loudest kid in the world."

Clara held her baby close, feeling the rapid, strong heartbeat against her own. "Welcome to the world, Maya," Clara whispered.
Not Victoria. Maya. A name that meant illusion to some, but to Clara, it meant a new beginning. A name that belonged entirely to the light.
