Chapter 5 - The Birth of a New Life

Two months later, on a quiet March morning, Elena gave birth to a son.

The labor was long.

The fear was familiar.

But this time, Elena was not alone.

Miriam stood beside her.

Rosa came from New York after secretly resigning from the Moretti mansion.

And when the baby’s cry filled the room, Elena held him against her chest and felt the world become still.

“He is beautiful,” Rosa whispered.

Elena looked at her son.

He had dark hair.

A serious forehead.

Long fingers curling around the edge of her hospital gown.

“What is his name?” Miriam asked.

Elena smiled through tears.

“Adrian.”

Adrian Hartwell.

No Moretti.

Not yet.

Across the city, Lucien sat in his car outside the hospital.

He had received the message from Miriam.

Mother and baby are healthy.

Elena does not want visitors today.

Lucien did not go inside.

Instead, he placed a small white box with hospital security.

Inside was no expensive jewelry.

No designer clothes.

No note demanding forgiveness.

Just a handmade wooden music box.

When opened, it played a simple lullaby.

Under the lid, engraved in tiny letters, were the words:

For Adrian. From the father who is trying to become worthy of you.

Elena found it that evening.

She did not cry.

Not immediately.

But when Adrian woke in the middle of the night, she held him close and turned the music box key.

The soft melody filled the dark room.

For a few minutes, she allowed herself to imagine a future where her son might know his father.

May you like

Not because Lucien deserved it.

But because Adrian deserved the chance to decide for himself.
