Chapter 5 - Camille’s Return
Just as Elena began to believe peace might be possible, Camille returned.
She appeared at Roman’s Bellhaven house in a red coat and high heels, looking exactly like the woman Elena remembered from that night.
“I heard you found them,” Camille said.
Roman’s face went cold.
“What do you want?”
Camille smiled.
“A second chance.”
“You had one.”
“I was young.”
“You were cruel.”
Camille’s smile faded.
“You left your wife for me. Don’t act like I was the only villain.”
Roman stepped closer.
“You are right. You were not.”
Camille’s eyes narrowed.
Then she made a decision that would change everything.
She contacted a reporter.
Two days later, an article appeared online claiming Roman Vescari had abandoned his wife and child, then tried to force his way back into their lives using money and influence.
The story spread quickly.
Photographers appeared in Bellhaven.
Marco’s school received calls.
Elena was furious.
“This is why I never wanted you near us,” she told Roman.
“I will handle it.”
“No. You always handle things by making them worse.”
Roman stood silently as Elena’s fear became anger.
Then he did something she never expected.
He held a press conference.
No lawyers wrote his statement.
No public relations team softened his words.
Roman stood before cameras and said, “Years ago, I failed my wife and my son. I made selfish choices. I cannot undo them. I am not asking for sympathy. I am asking for the chance to become better through my actions.”
