PART 3: The Red Dress and the Red Lights

The heavy oak doors of the Vale mansion clicked shut, leaving behind a suffocating silence. Outside, Marcus held his trembling daughter tightly against his chest, shielding her from the biting evening wind. Lily buried her face into his neck, her small hands gripping his suit jacket like a lifeline. For the first time in months, she wasn't crying from fear. She was crying because she was finally safe.
Inside the grand foyer, Cassandra stood frozen in her glittering red dress. The perfect, elegant facade she had spent years carefully constructing was shattering into a million irreparable pieces.
Her phone buzzed. Then it chimed. Then it began to ring endlessly.
With shaking hands, she looked at the screen. It was an email from the chairwoman of the Children’s Charity Gala. The subject line was a single word: Disgusting. Below it was a notification from her bank—her joint credit cards with Marcus had been frozen. Another message from her publicist simply read: I quit. Don't ever contact me again.
"No, no, no," Cassandra gasped, her perfectly manicured nails frantically tapping the screen, desperately trying to delete the digital wildfire. But Marcus hadn't just sent a video. He had sent a meticulously compiled dossier of every instance of abuse, every cruel word, and every terrifying threat she had hissed at Lily when she thought the house was empty.
Then, the flashing red and blue lights illuminated the massive windows of the mansion.

Three police cruisers tore up the circular driveway, tires screeching against the gravel. Cassandra stumbled backward, her designer heels catching on the marble floor. She tried to arrange her face into a mask of innocent shock, practicing the tears she planned to show the officers.
But as the heavy doors burst open and the police officers stepped inside, holding a pair of cold steel handcuffs, Cassandra realized Marcus hadn't just broken her heart. He had entirely erased her future.
