Chapter 3 — The Test No One Knew They Were Taking

The next morning every major newspaper reported the shocking incident.
People condemned Veronica.
But an even bigger surprise followed.
Nathan announced that the entire gala had secretly been a leadership evaluation for several companies seeking billion-dollar partnerships.
Every guest's behavior had been recorded.
Not for entertainment.
For integrity.
Executives who ignored Eleanor lost their contracts.
Those who laughed lost invitations forever.
Those who tried to impress powerful people while mistreating the powerless were quietly removed from future negotiations.
Emma expected to return to waiting tables.
Instead, Nathan invited her to his office.
"We don't need more people who know business," he told her.
"We need people who know right from wrong."
He offered her a position leading the foundation's community outreach program.
Emma stared at the contract.
"I don't have a business degree."
Nathan smiled.

"You have something rarer."
"Integrity."
