Chapter 5 - A New Empire

Six Months Later
The Las Vegas winter was surprisingly crisp, but inside our sprawling, heavily guarded estate, the fireplaces were roaring and the house was filled with warmth.
I walked into the nursery, leaning against the doorframe. Elena was sitting in the plush rocking chair, humming a soft lullaby as she rocked our healthy, thriving six-month-old son, Julian, to sleep. She looked radiant, completely recovered, and more beautiful than the day I first met her. The syndicate life, the violence, the shadows—they were a closed chapter. The legitimate transition of my empire was complete. The Vance Foundation now funded pediatric cardiac research across the state, a tribute to the hospital staff who saved my wife's life.
She looked up and caught me watching them. A soft smile graced her lips. “He has your stubbornness, you know. He absolutely refuses to take a nap when he wants to play.”
I walked over, leaning down to press a kiss to Elena’s cheek, then kissing the soft, dark hair of my son. “He's a Vance. We don't surrender easily.”
I pulled a small velvet box from my pocket and knelt beside the rocking chair. Elena’s eyes widened, her breath catching in her throat as I opened it to reveal a massive, flawless diamond ring—a new ring, for a completely new beginning.
“I promised you in that hospital room that I would spend the rest of my life earning you back,” I said softly, looking up into the eyes of my true queen. “You are my light, my equal, and the mother of my heir. I dismantled the underworld for you. I built a legitimate empire for him. Will you do me the honor of marrying me again, Elena?”
She didn't hesitate. She shifted Julian carefully against her shoulder, reached out with her left hand, and smiled with a joy that illuminated the entire room.

“Put it on me, Cassian,” she whispered, tears of absolute happiness shining in her eyes.
I slid the ring onto her finger, sealing our fractured past and securing our beautiful future. The empire was safe, the enemies were buried, and my real family was finally, permanently, home.
