I didn't just take the job.
I took control.
For the next ten weeks, I worked from a luxury suite Edward had provided, building Langley Holdings' new aggressive tech portfolio.
I did it all while on strict bed rest, surrounded by monitors and top-tier doctors.
When I went into labor at thirty-four weeks, Edward was the one sitting in the waiting room.
My friend Maya held my hand.
Three healthy, screaming babies came into the world: Leo, Jack, and Claire.
They didn't look like Cole.
They looked like me.
And while I was holding my children, Cole was busy making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Without me writing his speeches, managing his crisis PR, and covering his blind spots, Mercer Systems was bleeding money.
Cole had launched two new products that completely failed.
Investors were pulling out.
Sloan, his glamorous new wife, was spending his dwindling fortune on private jets and Cartier diamonds, oblivious to the fact that the ship was sinking.
Cole tried to blame the market.
