Chapter 3 - The Power Shift

The silence in the Golden Oak Country Club became absolute.
Magnus’s face drained of color. The courtroom jaw went slack. He dropped his champagne flute. It tipped over, spilling pale gold liquid across the white linen, soaking into the fabric like a stain.
"What?" Magnus choked out.
"You always hated Grandfather's traditionalism," I said, my voice steady, ringing out over the hundreds of watching guests. "You spent ten years trying to find a loophole to keep the voting shares in your name. But there isn't one. The trust automatically vested to me at 2:00 p.m. today when the ink dried on the registry."
On the dance floor, Vance dropped Blair's hand as if it had caught fire.
He stared at me, the polished, confident smirk entirely wiped from his face. "Sloan... what are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about leverage, Vance," I said, finally turning to look at my husband of three hours. "You married me because my father promised you the CEO position. You thought you could have my title for the board meetings, and my sister for the hotel rooms. But my father doesn't own the company anymore. I do."

Blair stepped forward, her face twisting into an ugly sneer. "You're bluffing. Daddy wouldn't let that happen."
"Daddy didn't read the fine print," I replied smoothly. "And clearly, neither did your boyfriend."
