Chapter 3 - The Midnight Siege

The penthouse transformed into a highly synchronized command center. As the hours crept past midnight and into the early, freezing hours of Sunday morning, the sprawling living room hummed with the frantic, precise energy of Dante’s elite financial operatives. Large digital monitors were erected on the glass dining table, displaying cascading lines of code, offshore routing numbers, and massive, staggering wire transfers.

Vanessa walked into the room at 3:00 AM, wearing black tactical fatigues, having shed the polished, glamorous persona she wore at the Drake Hotel. She walked directly over to me and placed the empty, hollowed-out sapphire ring on the table.

“The extraction is complete, Mrs. Moretti,” Vanessa said, offering a sharp, respectful nod. “We have bypassed the encryption. The accounts are entirely exposed.”

“Drain them,” I said without a single second of hesitation. “I want every cent of his untraceable, illicit wealth funneled into the anonymous, decentralized blockchain wallets Dante established. Leave nothing but dust in those Cayman accounts.”

“It’s already done,” Dante murmured, standing behind my chair, watching the screens as billions of dollars in dark money seamlessly evaporated from Roman’s control. “By the time the banks open on Monday, Roman’s shadow empire will officially cease to exist. But that’s only half the battle. When Roman realizes the money is gone, he will desperately try to liquidate the legitimate assets of Castellano Shipping to cover his massive, illegal debts to the international syndicates he works with. We have to sever his control over the legitimate board before he can sell off your father’s legacy.”

I nodded, my fingers flying across the keyboard of my laptop. For four years, I had played the role of the oblivious trophy wife, but I had a brilliant, photographic memory, and I had quietly absorbed every single detail of Roman’s corporate structure during his arrogant, boastful phone calls.

“My father’s original corporate charter contained a deeply buried, archaic bloodline succession clause,” I explained to Dante, pulling up the digitized legal documents I had secretly archived months ago. “Roman absorbed the Moretti lines through a proxy marriage trust. But according to Section 8 of the charter, if the acting CEO is ever formally indicted for gross fiduciary fraud or violent felonies, the proxy trust is immediately, unilaterally dissolved, and total voting control reverts instantly to the original Moretti bloodline.”

Dante’s eyes gleamed with a predatory satisfaction. “And since we now possess the unencrypted ledgers detailing Roman’s massive, international money laundering operations, we have irrefutable proof of his fiduciary fraud.”

“Exactly,” I said, compiling the devastating financial evidence into a secure, encrypted legal dossier. “I am emailing this entire dossier directly to the United States Attorney’s Office, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the FBI Field Office in Chicago. I am simultaneously triggering the succession clause, revoking Roman’s executive authority over the board.”

I hit the enter key. The emails vanished into the digital ether, carrying the absolute, guaranteed destruction of Roman Castellano.

“He is going to be entirely unhinged when he realizes what has happened,” Dante warned, his protective instincts flaring as he looked down at me. “He is a dangerous man when backed into a corner, Evelyn.”

“I know exactly how dangerous he is,” I replied softly, closing the laptop with a definitive snap. I stood up, the exhaustion in my bones entirely masked by the sheer, exhilarating adrenaline pumping through my veins. “He likes to humiliate people in public. He likes to watch them break in front of an audience. It’s time I return the favor.”

I looked at Vanessa. “Where did Roman go after the party imploded?”

“He barricaded himself in the executive boardroom at the Castellano Tower,” Vanessa reported, checking a tablet. “He is frantically trying to contact his offshore bankers, screaming at his security detail to find me. He thinks I betrayed him for a rival cartel. He has no idea you are orchestrating this.”

“Perfect,” I smiled, a cold, terrifying expression that mirrored Dante’s. “Dante, can your security team clear the lobby of Castellano Tower?”

“I can have fifty heavily armed men lock down that building in twenty minutes,” Dante said, pulling his suit jacket over his broad shoulders.

“Good. Let’s go fire my husband.”
