Chapter 4 - The Complete Erasure

The exodus was pathetic and silent. Grant and Brielle walked out of the private club, stripped of their arrogance, their wealth, and their dignity. They had arrived in a chauffeur-driven Maybach paid for by my accounts. They left on foot, standing on the sidewalk in the freezing Chicago wind, waiting for a rideshare because Grant’s platinum credit cards had all been instantaneously declined.
Inside the dining room, Thomas Whitcomb and the rest of the financial advisors stood up and formally offered their hands to me.
"A flawlessly executed transition, Catherine," Thomas said, bowing his head slightly in a gesture of profound, undeniable respect. "Your assets are completely insulated. He cannot touch a single cent."
"Thank you, Thomas," I replied, slipping the diamond necklace into my purse. "Please ensure that the eviction notices for his private office suite are served by tomorrow morning."
The fallout over the next forty-eight hours was a spectacle of absolute ruin. Denied access to my wealth, Grant’s strategic development firm violently collapsed. His investors, realizing he had lied about his capital backing, filed a wave of massive, crippling lawsuits. The federal government officially indicted him for wire fraud and embezzlement.

Brielle, realizing that the glamorous, billionaire lifestyle she had eagerly homewrecked my marriage to secure was nothing more than an illusion, abandoned him immediately. She moved back in with her parents, utterly disgraced and completely severed from the high-society world she had tried to infiltrate.
Grant was left entirely alone, facing years in a federal penitentiary, forced to rely on a public defender because he could not even afford the retainer for a criminal attorney.
