Chapter 2 - The Dress

Sienna stiffened.
“The midnight-blue couture gown,” Adrian continued. “I was informed before I arrived that it was purchased by an anonymous phone bidder for five hundred thousand dollars.”
He smiled.
It was not a kind smile.
“I was that bidder.”
Sienna’s face went completely pale.
Nathaniel stepped in front of her.
“Adrian, stop this.”
“I bought the dress,” Adrian said simply. “And as the rightful owner, I would like to collect my property.”
He looked directly into Sienna’s terrified eyes.
“You have exactly ten minutes to take it off and hand it to the event staff. Or I will have hotel security remove you for grand larceny.”
The ballroom erupted in gasps.
Sienna let out a choked sob.
She looked at Nathaniel, begging him to fix it.
Begging him to save her.
But Nathaniel couldn't do anything.
He was trapped by his own arrogance.
“Nathaniel, please,” Sienna cried.
“Go to the suite,” Nathaniel hissed at her, humiliated beyond repair. “Just take it off.”
Sienna picked up the hem of the beautiful midnight-blue gown and fled the ballroom in tears.
She didn't look like a woman who had inherited my life anymore.
She looked like a thief who had been caught.
Nathaniel turned to storm off the stage.
“We aren’t done,” Adrian said quietly.
“I gave the apology,” Nathaniel snapped.
“I’m not talking about the apology,” Adrian replied. “I’m talking about the Cayman accounts.”
Nathaniel froze.

He stopped breathing.
And that was the moment I realized my stolen dress was nothing compared to the real crime.
