Chapter 4 - The Red Dress Rules

Nathaniel lunged for the keycard.
Adrian caught him by the throat and slammed him against the concrete wall of the backstage corridor.
Nathaniel choked, his polished tuxedo wrinkling under Adrian’s grip.
“Don’t ever try to touch her again,” Adrian whispered.
I didn't flinch.
I didn't look away.
I looked at the man I had spent seven years building a foundation with.
“You wanted to humiliate me today,” I said. “You wanted me to walk in and feel small. You wanted me to feel like I was losing my husband.”
I stepped closer.
“But you forgot whose money built you.”
I held up the keycard.
“I am going upstairs. I am downloading the shadow ledger. And I am handing it directly to the FBI.”
Nathaniel began to cry.
Real, desperate tears.
“Vivienne, please. I’ll go to prison.”
“Yes,” I said. “You will.”
“I’m your husband!”
“Not anymore.”
I turned my back on him.
I walked toward the service elevator.

Adrian let go of Nathaniel’s throat, letting him crumple to the floor.
“You should have let her wear the blue,” Adrian told him quietly. “The red is much less forgiving.”
