Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Ambush

On Monday morning, David tried to waltz into his corporate headquarters, desperate to reclaim some sense of power after the catastrophic humiliation at the wedding. He expected his employees to bow to him. He expected his kingdom to remain intact.

Instead, his keycard flashed red at the executive elevator.

When security finally escorted him up to the boardroom, he walked in to find me sitting in the CEO's chair. I was wearing a sharp navy suit, flanked by my legal team and the firm's chief financial officer.

"Carol? What the hell are you doing here?" David demanded, his voice cracking with panic. "Get out of my office!"

"It’s not your office, David," I said smoothly, sliding a massive, audited financial dossier across the mahogany table. "It’s mine. And according to Section 4 of the shareholder agreement, any gross misuse of corporate funds triggers an immediate, unilateral termination of the acting CEO."

David stared at the documents. The color drained from his face. "You... you audited the company accounts?"

"I audited everything," I replied, my voice devoid of any mercy. "You used three hundred thousand dollars of company money to finance your affair with Melissa. You committed corporate fraud. I have already frozen your company credit lines, your expense accounts, and your salary. You are officially terminated."
