Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Slaughter

The climax of Daniel’s ruin was scheduled for a Friday afternoon.

Desperate to save his collapsing company and avoid federal bankruptcy, Daniel had called an emergency meeting with the remaining board of directors and the primary investors. He planned to beg for a massive capital injection, blaming the union strikes on a "temporary logistical error" and swearing that the company’s foundation was solid. He believed he could charm his way out of the slaughterhouse.

The glass-walled executive boardroom on the fortieth floor was packed with nervous, angry billionaires. Daniel stood at the head of the mahogany table, sweating profusely through his designer suit, clicking through a desperate PowerPoint presentation. Vivian sat to his right, looking pale and terrified, realizing that the money she had stolen was frozen and the FBI was likely already circling.

"Gentlemen, I assure you, Morgan Logistics is fully capable of weathering this storm," Daniel pleaded, his voice cracking with panic. "We just need a temporary bridge loan of twenty million to satisfy the creditors and get the trucks moving again. My team is working around the clock—"

The heavy oak doors of the boardroom violently slammed open.

The executives went dead silent. Daniel stopped mid-sentence, his jaw dropping in sheer horror.

I walked into the room. I was no longer the bleeding, terrified woman in a hospital gown. I wore a sharp, tailored crimson suit that commanded absolute authority. My hair was styled flawlessly, and I walked in high heels with the posture of an untouchable queen. Flanking me were Gerald Whitmore and three massive private security contractors.

"Lucia?" Daniel choked out, staggering backward as if he had just seen a ghost. "What... what are you doing here?"

"I am attending a board meeting for my company, Daniel," I replied smoothly, walking directly to the opposite end of the table. "Though I am surprised to see you here, considering you are currently under investigation for gross corporate embezzlement and wire fraud."

Vivian gasped, jumping out of her chair. "She's lying! Security, get this crazy woman out of here!"

"Sit down, Vivian," I snapped, my voice cracking like a whip. "Before I hand the federal authorities the exact IP addresses you used to funnel fourteen million dollars into your Cayman accounts."

Vivian collapsed back into her chair, covering her face in her hands, completely shattered.

I turned my attention to the board of directors. I pulled a flash drive from my pocket and handed it to Gerald, who plugged it into the main console. The screens behind Daniel instantly shifted from his pathetic financial projections to high-definition scans of the offshore wire transfers, the forged invoices, and the stolen pension funds.

"Ladies and gentlemen," I announced, projecting my voice across the room. "My name is Lucia Thorne. I hold fifty-one percent of the voting shares of Morgan Logistics through the Thorne Family Trust. The man standing before you has not only driven this company into catastrophic debt, but he has actively stolen millions from your investments to fund a luxury lifestyle with his mistress."

The boardroom erupted into furious shouts. The investors leaped to their feet, screaming at Daniel.

"You stole from us?!" one billionaire roared, throwing his pen at Daniel.

"It's not true! She doctored the documents because she’s a bitter, jealous ex-wife!" Daniel screamed, pointing a trembling finger at me. "She's trying to ruin me because I left her!"

"I am ruining you because you are a parasite, Daniel," I said coldly, walking toward him until I was only a few feet away. "You abandoned me while I was bleeding out on a table. You abandoned your unborn daughter. You told me you needed twenty minutes to handle an emergency. Well, your twenty minutes are up."

I turned to Gerald. "Execute the termination."

Gerald slapped a legal binder onto the table. "Daniel Morgan, you are officially terminated as CEO, stripped of your minority shares, and removed from the premises. The federal agents are waiting for you in the lobby."

Daniel fell to his knees, right there on the corporate carpet, openly weeping. He reached out, desperately trying to grab the hem of my pantsuit. "Lucy, please! Please, don't do this! I'll give it all back! I love you! I love our daughter! Please don't let them take me to prison!"

I looked down at the pathetic, broken man I had once loved. I felt absolutely nothing but a profound, radiant peace.

"My name is Lucia Thorne," I whispered, echoing the power of the bloodline he had forgotten. "And you will never speak of my daughter again."

I turned my back on him and walked out of the boardroom, listening to the sound of federal agents storming the floor to drag my ex-husband and his mistress away in handcuffs.
