Chapter 4 - The Projection

Margaret walked into the room.

Behind her were the two corporate auditors and three federal agents.

And right behind them, wearing a sharp black suit and a medical splint on my left hand, was me.

Julian’s face drained of all color.

The pen slipped from Victoria’s fingers and clattered onto the mahogany table.

"Elena?" Julian choked out. "What are you doing here?"

"She is here as a protected whistleblower," Margaret announced to the stunned room.

Margaret handed a flash drive to the AV technician.

The massive presentation screen behind Julian went dark.

Then, my photograph appeared in ten-foot, high-definition glory.

Julian. Victoria. My bed. The champagne.

And the confidential blue folder resting right beside Victoria's bidder badge.

The CEO stood up so fast his chair tipped over.

"Julian, what the hell is this?" the CEO roared.

"It's a fake!" Julian screamed, his voice cracking with panic. "She photoshopped it! She's a jealous, crazy woman!"

The lead federal agent stepped forward.

"The metadata has been verified by our cyber division," the agent said calmly. "It was taken at 1:14 a.m. on Tuesday in your master bedroom."

The agent looked at the contract on the table.

"And since you just signed that award document, Mr. Vance, you have officially committed federal fraud."
