Chapter 4 - The Actress's Secret

As if the financial ruin wasn't enough, the final, devastating blow arrived in a sterile white envelope three days later.
In the midst of the legal chaos, Savannah’s lawyers had submitted her medical records as part of her civil suit against Damian, attempting to prove the "stress" the bigamy revelation had caused her pregnancy.
Damian’s attorney, a weary man who had barely slept in seventy-two hours, dropped the file on Damian's desk.
"You need to look at page four, Damian," the lawyer said grimly.
Damian opened the file. His eyes scanned the medical jargon, stopping on a single, highlighted paragraph from Savannah's private Beverly Hills physician, dated four days before the wedding.
Patient advised that the pregnancy is non-viable. HCG levels indicate a blighted ovum. Patient has scheduled a discrete D&C procedure for the end of the month, post-wedding.
Damian stared at the words, his mind short-circuiting.
Savannah wasn't pregnant. She had lost the pregnancy weeks ago, but she and her PR team had hidden it, using the "baby" to force Damian into a rushed, multi-million-dollar marriage before the truth could come out. Irene, in her desperate bid for a "perfect" Hollywood daughter-in-law, had orchestrated the destruction of her son's actual family for an absolute lie.

Damian dropped the file. He had thrown away a devoted wife and his actual, unborn twins for a woman who was playing him for a fool.
He fell to his knees in the middle of his empty office, sobbing uncontrollably, begging a god he didn't believe in to give him back the woman he had treated like a ghost.
