Chapter 3 - The Security Camera Surprise

By Wednesday, the shock had worn off, and Barbara’s venom had set in. She decided to go on the offensive.
I woke up to frantic texts from a few mutual friends. Barbara had taken to Facebook and Instagram, posting a long, tearful video painting me as a hysterical, abusive wife. She claimed I had suffered a "psychotic break," forced my loving husband and his elderly parents out into the freezing cold without cause, and was now trying to ruin them financially out of pure spite.
The post had hundreds of comments. Bradley’s cousins were chiming in, calling me a sociopath and a gold-digger—an ironic accusation considering I was the one with the gold.
Diane called me, sounding completely unfazed. “Have you seen the social media circus?”
“I have,” I sighed. “Do we send a cease and desist?”
“No,” Diane chuckled. “We go nuclear. Did you forget that luxury rentals have outdoor security cameras for liability purposes?”
My eyes widened. I had completely forgotten.
Within two hours, Diane had subpoenaed the footage from the property management company. It was high-definition, complete with crystal-clear audio. It showed me politely asking to sit down. It showed Barbara rolling her eyes. And, most importantly, it showed Bradley screaming at me, his cousins violently grabbing my arms, dragging me across the yard while I begged them to stop, and Bradley shoving me into the freezing water while the entire family cheered.
Diane didn't just leak the video. She attached it to a public defamation lawsuit filed against Barbara and the two cousins.
The internet did what the internet does best. It ignited.

The video went incredibly viral. Within twenty-four hours, Barbara was a local pariah. Her country club, terrified of the bad PR, quietly revoked her membership. The two cousins who had dragged me were publicly identified by internet sleuths; one was fired from his accounting firm by the end of the day, and the other deleted all his social media to escape the death threats.
Bradley’s attempt to play the victim was obliterated in real-time. He was no longer a tragic, abandoned husband. He was the coward who assaulted his wife for a cheap laugh.
