Chapter 13: The Boardroom Execution

The trap was set, but a rat doesn't die until the cage is closed.
Don Alberto had flown into New York under the guise of a legitimate foreign investor. He was scheduled to attend a finalized signing at Moretti Holdings, expecting Lucian to hand over the controlling shares of the Manhattan project to save his company from bankruptcy.
The meeting was held in Lucian’s glass-walled boardroom on the fiftieth floor, overlooking the city he used to rule.
I did not wait in the lobby. I sat at the head of the long mahogany table, wearing a razor-sharp white suit, my hair pulled back into a severe knot. Lucian stood right behind my chair, his hands resting lightly on my shoulders—a terrifying, silent guardian.
The doors swung open.
Don Alberto walked in. He was a small, impeccably dressed man with silver hair and eyes as cold as a winter grave. He was flanked by three massive men whose expensive suits could not hide the fact that they were killers.
Alberto stopped when he saw me sitting in the chairman’s seat.
"Lucian," Alberto sneered in a thick, raspy Italian accent. "I expected a negotiation between men. I see you brought your wife to handle your affairs. How far the great Moretti has fallen."
Lucian’s fingers tightened slightly on my shoulders, but he did not take the bait. He remained perfectly silent, allowing me to speak.
"Have a seat, Alberto," I commanded, my voice echoing off the glass walls with absolute authority.
Alberto chuckled, pulling out a chair. "I am not here to chat, little girl. I am here for the signatures. My trust owns the debt. Sign the project over, and maybe I will call off the media hounds tearing your little charity to pieces."
"You don't own anything," I said smoothly.
I pushed a single piece of paper across the polished wood table.
Alberto looked down. His smug smile instantly vanished.
"As of 8:00 AM this morning, the United States Department of the Treasury officially designated the Venezia Trust as a front for international organized crime," I recited, watching the color drain from the old man's face. "Your assets are frozen. The shares you purchased are nullified. And the media outlets you paid to run that deepfake audio are currently facing a fifty-million-dollar defamation lawsuit."
Alberto shot up from his chair, slamming his fists on the table. "This is a lie! I have the best lawyers in the world!"
"Your lawyers," Lucian finally spoke, his voice a low, demonic rumble that sent shivers down the spines of the bodyguards, "are currently being raided by the FBI in Palermo."
Alberto looked frantically between Lucian and me. He had walked in expecting to break a reformed mobster. He hadn't expected to be outplayed by the matriarch.
"You think you can do this to me?" Alberto hissed, pulling a burner phone from his pocket. "I will have a hit ordered on both of you before I reach the lobby!"
Lucian stepped out from behind my chair. He moved with a terrifying, liquid grace, closing the distance between them in a microsecond. He didn't draw a weapon. He didn't throw a punch. He simply placed a heavy hand on Alberto’s shoulder and leaned in.
"If you ever threaten the mother of my child again," Lucian whispered, his eyes pitch black, "I will not call the police. I will remember exactly who I used to be. Do you understand?"
Alberto swallowed hard, genuine terror finally breaking his facade.
The boardroom doors opened, and four federal agents walked in, holding federal arrest warrants for extortion and money laundering.

As they placed handcuffs on the old don, dragging his legacy out of the room, I stood up and smoothed my blazer.
The war was over. And we hadn't fired a single bullet.
