Chapter 4 - The Empire Shared

The executive boardroom of Callahan Global was packed with thirty of the city's most powerful stakeholders. Marcus Vance stood at the head of the glass table, wearing a smug, victorious smile as he prepared to initiate the hostile takeover.

"As you can see, gentlemen," Vance announced smoothly, "Mr. Callahan has been absent, erratic, and unfit to lead this company. It is time for new leadership."

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a deafening crash.

Ethan walked in, radiating an untouchable, freezing authority. But he wasn't alone. I walked directly beside him, wearing a sharp, tailored black suit that Ethan had ordered for me, my chin held high.

Vance’s smug smile faltered. "Ethan. What is the meaning of this? Who is this woman?"

"This is the mother of my niece," Ethan said, his voice echoing through the silent room like a thunderclap. "And the sole inheritor of Caleb Callahan's fifty-percent voting shares in this company."

The room erupted into gasps. Vance went completely pale.

"Caleb is dead," Vance stammered, taking a step back.

"He is," I said, stepping forward. I didn't flinch under the weight of thirty powerful executives staring at me. I threw the waterproof envelope and the USB drive directly onto the center of the glass table. "Because you murdered him. You killed him to hide the three billion dollars you embezzled from this firm."

Complete chaos broke out. Board members scrambled to grab the ledger, their eyes widening in horror as they saw the irrefutable proof of Vance's treason.

"You're insane!" Vance shrieked, lunging toward the table to grab the drive.

He never made it. Ethan moved with terrifying speed, grabbing Vance by the collar and slamming him back against the wall so hard the framed portraits rattled.

"The FBI is currently raiding your estate, Marcus," Ethan hissed, his voice dropping to a lethal whisper. "You took my brother from me. I am going to take your freedom, your wealth, and your legacy. You will rot in a federal cell until the end of your miserable days."

Security rushed in, dragging a screaming, ruined Marcus Vance out of the boardroom in handcuffs.

The executives were completely stunned into silence. Ethan slowly straightened his suit jacket. He looked around the room, making eye contact with every single board member, daring them to challenge him. No one spoke.

He turned to me, the ice in his eyes completely melting away.

Six Months Later

The penthouse was quiet, filled only with the soft, melodic sound of a lullaby playing in the nursery.

I stood in the massive kitchen, pouring two cups of coffee. I wore a silk robe, my bare feet padding softly against the heated hardwood floors. I wasn't struggling to survive anymore. I was the Vice President of Philanthropy at Callahan Global, running the charitable foundation we had established in Caleb's honor.

Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind.

Ethan pressed a soft kiss to the side of my neck, pulling me back flush against his chest. He was wearing his suit trousers and a crisp white shirt, his hair slightly damp from the shower.

"She finally fell asleep," Ethan murmured, resting his chin on my shoulder.

"You spoil her," I smiled, turning in his arms to face him.

"I'll spoil you both for the rest of my life," Ethan vowed, his dark eyes burning with an intense, profound devotion that still took my breath away.

He reached up, his thumbs gently framing my face. The cold, untouchable billionaire was gone. In his place was a man who had finally found the family he had been searching for.

"I lost my brother," Ethan whispered, leaning down until his lips hovered just inches from mine. "But he sent you to me. You saved my life, Clara. And I am going to spend the rest of mine making sure you and Lily never have to carry the weight of the world alone again."

I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him down into a slow, consuming kiss. I had walked into his office terrified of losing my job, but wrapped in his arms, staring out at the city we now ruled together, I finally knew exactly what it meant to be home.
