Chapter 14 - The Takedown at the SummitThe Global Financial Summit was the most exclusive economic event in the Midwest. Held in the grand ballroom of Alexander Pierce’s flagship hotel, it was a gathering of billionaires, senators, and corporate titans.

Alexander Pierce was the keynote speaker, scheduled to receive an award for "Ethical Innovations in Private Equity." The sheer audacity of it made my blood boil.

Julian and I did not have invitations. We didn't need them. Julian’s law firm represented the federal task force that was currently surrounding the building.

I wore a sharp, tailored ivory suit. I felt like a general stepping onto a battlefield. Julian walked beside me in a black tuxedo, radiating a protective, lethal calm.

We bypassed the main ballroom and took the service elevator directly to the executive penthouse suite, where the private vault was located. The FBI cyber-crimes unit had already disabled the floor’s security cameras.

As we stepped out of the elevator, Pierce’s private security detail moved to intercept us.

"Federal agents! Drop your weapons!"

A dozen FBI SWAT agents poured out of the stairwells, swarming the guards, pinning them to the plush carpet before they could even draw their firearms.

Julian nodded to the lead agent, who placed a heavy breaching charge against the vault door.

Ten minutes later, the heavy steel door swung open. The agents secured the encrypted server drive labeled Icarus. We had the master ledger. We had proof of billions of dollars in illegal market manipulation, political bribery, and money laundering.

"Let’s go crash a party," Julian smiled, offering me his arm.

We walked down to the grand ballroom. The massive crystal doors swung open just as Alexander Pierce took the stage, holding his crystal award, smiling smugly for the cameras.

Julian and I walked directly down the center aisle. The crowd parted, murmuring in confusion.

Pierce stopped his speech, his eyes locking onto me. His arrogant smile vanished instantly, replaced by a flash of genuine panic.

"Security," Pierce barked into the microphone. "Remove these people."

"Your security is currently in federal custody, Alexander," Julian’s voice boomed across the silent ballroom.

I stepped forward, holding a printed copy of the master ledger’s summary page.

"Mr. Pierce," I said, my voice projecting clearly to the hundreds of elite guests. "On behalf of Marlo Financial and the United States Department of Justice, I wanted to personally congratulate you on your award for 'ethical innovations.' It takes a truly innovative mind to launder three billion dollars through a network of phantom charities while simultaneously attempting to frame a domestic abuse non-profit."

The ballroom erupted into chaotic gasps. Flashbulbs went off like a lightning storm.

Pierce gripped the edges of the podium, his knuckles turning white. "This is a fabrication! I am a pillar of this city!"

"You are a parasite," I corrected him, absolutely unyielding. "And we just handed your Icarus server to the FBI. The DOJ already froze your global assets ten minutes ago."

The side doors of the ballroom burst open. Federal agents, led by the US Attorney, marched directly onto the stage.

"Alexander Pierce," the US Attorney announced, pulling out handcuffs. "You are under arrest for federal racketeering, wire fraud, and international money laundering."

Pierce was hauled away from the podium, the cameras broadcasting his absolute destruction live to the world. As they dragged him past me down the aisle, he glared at me with pure, unadulterated hatred.

I didn't blink. I simply offered him a polite, chilling smile.

"The math never lies, Alexander," I said softly as he was pulled away.

I turned and looked at Julian. He was watching me with an expression of profound, awe-struck worship.

"You are the most magnificent woman I have ever met," Julian murmured, wrapping his arms around my waist.

"I told you," I smiled, leaning up to kiss him amidst the chaos of the ballroom. "I’m just an accountant. I balance the books."
