## Chapter 3: The Secret Evidence

# The Glass Inheritance

Leo’s apartment was a cramped studio above a noisy garage, but to Emily, it felt like a fortress.
“She’s going to frame you? For a bracelet?” Leo paced the floor, his face red with anger. “We need to go to the cops first, Em.”
“And tell them what? That I was kissing her husband?” Emily sat on the edge of the couch, shivering. “She’s got the money, Leo. She owns half the precinct.”
Just then, a knock at the door made them both jump. Leo grabbed a heavy wrench from his workbench. He looked through the peephole and froze. “It’s him. The big boss.”
Emily opened the door. Julian stood there, looking disheveled. His tie was loose, and his hair was mussed. He looked like a man who had walked through a storm.
“How did you find me?” Emily whispered.
“I tracked your phone,” Julian said, stepping inside. He looked at Leo, then back to Emily. “I don’t have much time. Victoria is filing for a bifurcated divorce. She’s going to use you to claim 'moral turpitude' so she can trigger the infidelity clause in our pre-nup. It’s not just about the bracelet. It’s about a three-hundred-million-dollar estate.”
“Then stay away from me!” Emily cried. “If you’re here, you’re just giving her what she wants!”
“No,” Julian said, his eyes burning with a fierce intensity. He reached into his coat and pulled out a small, leather-bound journal. “Victoria thinks she’s the only one with secrets. She’s been funneling money out of the Blackwood foundations for years to pay off her family’s debts in Europe. It’s all in here—the account numbers, the dates. I found it in her safe tonight.”
“Why are you showing me this?”
“Because I’m leaving her, Emily. Not just for us, but because I can’t be a part of her lies anymore. But I need you to keep this safe. If she knows I have it, she’ll destroy it. You’re the only person I trust.”

Outside, the screech of tires echoed. Blue and red lights began to dance against the apartment walls.
“They’re here,” Leo whispered, looking out the window. “The police.”
