Chapter 8 - The Viper’s NestTo hack an impenetrable fortress, you don't break down the front door. You manipulate the architect who built the walls.

At 9:00 P.M., the glittering, seventy-story Bellamy Tower was mostly empty, save for the elite security teams patrolling the marble lobby. I stood in the dark alleyway behind the loading docks, wrapped in a heavy trench coat.
A sleek, black car pulled up. Grant stepped out. He looked older, tired, and stripped of the arrogant titan energy he had once possessed. His mother had financially castrated him after his public humiliation three years ago.
"You said you had a way for me to get my trust fund back," Grant hissed, walking over to me, his eyes darting around nervously. "This better not be a trick, Sarah."
"It’s not a trick, Grant," I said smoothly, my voice echoing with crystal-clear authority. "Beatrice just filed for custody of Nolan. She froze my accounts. But to do it, she exposed the family trust to a federal audit."
Grant’s face drained of color. "If the feds look at the trust..."
"They will find the Medicare fraud," I finished for him. "And when they do, the Department of Justice will seize every single penny of the Bellamy empire. You won't just be on an allowance, Grant. You will be penniless. Unless you cooperate with me."
"Cooperate how?" he asked, greed and terror warring in his eyes.
"You still have biometric clearance to your mother’s private vault on the penthouse floor," I deduced. "I need the physical ledgers proving she orchestrated the fraud. If I hand those to the FBI, they grant you immunity as a cooperating witness, and you keep your personal offshore accounts. If you don't, Beatrice goes down, and she drags you with her."
Grant stared at me, realizing he was entirely trapped by the woman he used to control. He didn't have a choice.
"Ten minutes," Grant growled, swiping his master keycard on the service elevator.
We ascended in tense, suffocating silence to the penthouse floor. Grant pressed his thumb to the biometric scanner on the massive titanium vault door. With a heavy, hydraulic hiss, it swung open.
Inside, rows of safe deposit boxes lined the walls. Grant went straight to box number one, pulling out a thick, leather-bound ledger. He handed it to me.
I opened it. It was a masterpiece of corporate crime. Decades of unredacted offshore wire transfers, proving Beatrice had systematically stolen hundreds of millions from Medicare patients to fund her luxury real estate acquisitions.
"I have it," I whispered, the adrenaline flooding my veins. I pulled a high-resolution scanner from my bag and began rapidly digitizing the pages.
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the penthouse office burst open.
"Well, well," Beatrice’s voice echoed through the room.
I froze. Beatrice stood in the doorway, flanked by four massive private security contractors. She looked at Grant with absolute, unbridled disgust.
"I knew you were weak, Grant," Beatrice sneered. "The moment the vault alarm triggered my phone, I knew it was you. Did you really think I wouldn't monitor my own son?"
"Mother, I—" Grant stammered, backing away in terror.
"Shut up," Beatrice snapped. She turned her dead, shark-like eyes to me. "Take the ledger from her. And then throw her to the police for trespassing and corporate espionage."
The security guards stepped forward.
May you like
I didn't panic. I didn't run. I calmly finished the final scan, hit send on my encrypted phone, and placed the physical ledger back on the table.
"I wouldn't do that, Beatrice," I said softly, turning to face her with a radiant, devastatingly sharp smile.
