Chapter 9: The Demolition

By the time the sun rose over Chicago the next morning, the city was practically trembling.

The failed assassination attempt hadn't just eliminated Donati’s final muscle; it had given Elara the legal and financial ammunition to execute the ultimate, merciless kill shot.

She sat at her desk, sipping a double espresso, her eyes fixed on the financial monitors. Victor stood behind her, his large hands resting possessively on her shoulders, watching his architect dismantle a dynasty.

"The assassination attempt triggered the 'extreme risk penalty' clause I buried in the mezzanine debt contracts when we bought Donati’s loans," Elara explained, her fingers flying across the keyboard. "I am initiating immediate, forced asset liquidation."

Within two hours, the personal accounts, the trusts, and the physical properties of the Donati family were entirely frozen. The FBI, acting on an "anonymous" dossier filled with irrefutable proof of money laundering provided by Elara, raided the Donati headquarters. Leo Donati was dragged out in handcuffs on live television.

At noon, Elara’s intercom buzzed. Security informed her she had a visitor begging for an audience.

Isabella Donati was escorted into the office. She looked entirely unrecognizable from the arrogant mafia princess of the previous night. Her designer clothes were rumpled, her makeup was smeared from crying, and she looked absolutely terrified.

"Please..." Isabella sobbed, collapsing to her knees on the marble floor right in front of Elara’s desk. "Please, Elara. My father is in federal custody. The banks took the cars. The accounts are zeroed out. We have nothing left! I’ll do anything you want. I’ll apologize! Just... please don't take the family estate. Let me keep the house!"

Elara stood up slowly. She walked around the desk, her stilettos clicking sharply. She looked down at Isabella with an expression utterly devoid of pity.

"You are begging me, Isabella?" Elara asked, her voice smooth but lethally cold. "The night you stood in this penthouse, you looked at me like dirt on your shoe and told me to go scrub the toilets. You thought power was a birthright. You thought you could treat people like garbage because of your last name. But you were wrong. Power isn't inherited. It is taken."

"I was wrong! I'm so sorry!" Isabella wept, reaching out to grasp the hem of Elara’s skirt.

Elara stepped back, cleanly removing herself from the woman's grasp. "I executed the foreclosure on the Donati estate at 9:00 AM this morning. And I didn't acquire it to sell it back to you, Isabella. I already dispatched the demolition crews. Right now, your historic, hundred-year-old family mansion is being bulldozed into rubble to make way for a new commercial parking lot for Victor’s logistics division."

Isabella let out a horrified, blood-curdling shriek. The absolute, crushing reality of her total ruin finally broke her mind. She collapsed onto the floor, weeping hysterically.

"Security," Elara commanded coolly over the intercom. "Remove her from the premises. And ensure that no one bearing the Donati name ever steps foot in this building again."

As the guards dragged the sobbing woman out of the office and the heavy doors clicked shut, Victor stepped out of the shadows of the room. He walked up behind Elara, wrapping his arms around her waist, burying his face in the crook of her neck. He let out a dark, vibrating chuckle.

"Bulldozing her ancestral home to build a parking lot?" Victor murmured, pressing a kiss to her skin. "You are beautifully ruthless, Elara. I love it."

"I'm just cleaning up the remnants," Elara smiled, turning in his arms to wrap her hands behind his neck. "And making sure no one ever dares to look at our throne and think it's vulnerable."
