Chapter 5 - The Mistress Who Lost Everything

Sabrina Holt expected Damon to defend her.
Instead, she spent the night in a private hotel room with three missed calls from her publicist and fourteen messages from reporters.
The ballroom video spread before sunrise.
Not the full confrontation.
Someone had edited it.
But the important parts were clear.
Sabrina slapping me.
Damon watching.
Alexander Alderton calling me Madam Trustee.
By noon, her sponsors paused their contracts.
By afternoon, Cole Urban Development issued a statement distancing itself from “unauthorized conduct by an external consultant.”
Sabrina was furious.
She went to Damon’s office without an appointment.
His assistant tried to stop her.
Sabrina pushed through anyway.
Damon sat behind his desk, staring at a monitor filled with news articles.
“You abandoned me,” she said.
He did not look up.
“You assaulted my wife.”
“She insulted me.”
“She corrected you.”
“She humiliated me!”
Damon finally looked at her.
For the first time, Sabrina saw no affection in his face.
Only exhaustion.
“You humiliated yourself.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“You told me she was weak.”
Damon’s jaw tightened.
“I was wrong.”
“She is ruining us.”
“No,” he said. “She is exposing us.”
Sabrina laughed bitterly.
“You are afraid of her because she has money.”
Damon looked toward the window.
“No. I am afraid because she had power and never used it against me until I gave her no reason to protect me.”
Sabrina stepped closer.
“What happens to me?”
Damon said nothing.
And she understood.
The man she chose because he seemed powerful was no longer able to save her.
Within weeks, the investigation into Holt Strategic Communications expanded.
The company’s accounts revealed false invoices, concealed payments, and personal expenses billed through foundation projects.
Sabrina agreed to cooperate with investigators.
She hoped it would protect her.

But cooperation could not erase the footage of her raised hand.
Nor could it erase the fact that she had built her confidence on hurting a woman she believed had nobody behind her.
