Chapter 3 - The Cage Closes

The sanctuary erupted into absolute, uncontrolled chaos. Guests were standing up, shouting in disbelief. Ethan’s own parents, sitting across the aisle, looked at their son with sheer, unadulterated horror.

“It’s forged!” Ethan screamed, his voice cracking with desperation. He lunged toward the altar, trying to snatch the papers from Michael’s hands. “She was crazy! The pregnancy made her psychotic! Give me those papers!”

Before Ethan could take another step, the side doors of the church burst open. Four plainclothes detectives and two uniformed officers stormed into the sanctuary, their hands resting cautiously on their duty belts.

“Ethan Caldwell,” the lead detective announced, his voice cutting through the noise like a physical blade. “Stay exactly where you are.”

Ethan stopped dead in his tracks. The arrogance, the flawless tailoring, the effortless smile—all of it melted away in a matter of seconds, leaving behind a terrified, pathetic coward.

Michael adjusted his glasses and looked directly at Ethan. “My client wasn't finished. Shall I continue?”

The detective nodded. “Go ahead, Counselor.”

“‘I spent the last six months playing the submissive, terrified wife,’” Michael read, delivering Emily’s final blow. “‘But while you were sleeping with Sienna in the guest room, I was quietly transferring every single asset, every property, and the entirety of my trust fund into an irrevocable trust solely for my daughter, managed by my mother. You get absolutely nothing, Ethan. You are completely bankrupt. And you are going to prison for the rest of your natural life.’”

Sienna, realizing that the billionaire lifestyle she had plotted and schemed for was entirely a mirage, leaped out of the pew. She didn't look at Ethan with love or concern; she looked at him with the vicious, frantic anger of a rat trapped on a sinking ship.

“I had nothing to do with this!” Sienna shrieked, pointing a manicured finger at Ethan as the detectives closed in. “He told me she was sick! He told me she was going to die anyway! I didn't know he pushed her! He promised me the money!”

Ethan spun around, looking at his mistress with absolute betrayal. “Shut up, Sienna! Shut your mouth!”

“Oh, we have plenty of questions for you too, Ms. Blake,” the detective said smoothly, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt. “Considering the wire transfers from Mr. Caldwell’s embezzled accounts went directly into your personal Cayman Islands portfolio. You’re an accessory to fraud, extortion, and conspiracy to commit murder.”

“No!” Sienna screamed as an officer grabbed her arm, twisting it behind her back. The crimson dress suddenly looked completely ridiculous as she thrashed against the cold, unyielding grip of the law. “I won! He told me I won!”

“The only thing you won is a matching jumpsuit,” the officer replied dryly, clicking the cuffs shut around her wrists.
