Chapter 4: The Devastating Reveal

Before Julian could launch into another narcissistic tirade, the heavy service doors behind them slid open with a soft mechanical hiss.
A man in a sharp, formal charcoal business suit stepped onto the garage floor. It was Marcus, the executive assistant to the CEO of Apex Performance. He was a man in his late thirties, exuding an aura of quiet, professional efficiency. He walked with purpose, holding a sleek leather folio, entirely unbothered by the tense, hostile atmosphere crackling between the former couple.
Marcus stepped into the frame, stopping respectfully a few feet away from Elena. He completely ignored Julian, treating the man in the white suit as if he were nothing more than a minor architectural obstruction.
"Excuse me, Ma'am," Marcus said, his voice smooth and deferential. He bowed his head slightly toward Elena. "The board of directors is assembled in the main conference room. The meeting regarding the European expansion is waiting on your approval to commence."
Julian whipped his head around, staring at the assistant in utter bewilderment. He looked from Marcus’s expensive suit to Elena’s grease-stained coveralls. The cognitive dissonance was short-circuiting his brain.
"Ma'am?" Julian interrupted, letting out a harsh, incredulous laugh. He pointed a dismissive finger at Elena. "Why the hell are you calling her 'Ma'am'? She's just a mechanic! Tell the floor manager to get out here, I need to file a complaint about her behavior."
Marcus slowly turned his head to look at Julian. The assistant's expression was utterly devoid of emotion, a blank wall of professional indifference. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't show anger. He simply delivered a truth so heavy it shattered the room.
"Sir," Marcus said quietly. "She's not a mechanic."
The camera cut to a macro, extreme close-up of Julian’s face.
"She's the owner."
The words hit Julian like a physical blow to the sternum. The arrogant, condescending sneer was wiped from his face instantaneously. The macro shot captured his bright blue eye widening in pure, absolute, paralyzing shock. The pupil dilated rapidly. The color entirely drained from his perfectly tanned face.

His mind raced, desperately trying to connect the dots. The lavish apartment she supposedly rented. The effortless way she talked about multi-million dollar investments. The fact that she never, ever worried about the bill at five-star restaurants. She wasn't an employee of Apex Performance. She was Apex Performance.
He hadn't just dumped a mechanic. He had just brutally insulted, degraded, and walked away from a billionaire CEO who owned the very ground he was currently standing on. The realization of what he had just thrown away in a fit of superficial vanity crashed down on him with the weight of a collapsing skyscraper.
