Chapter 22 - The Viper’s NestTo destroy an apex predator, you do not wait for him in the shadows. You invite him to dinner.

I did not step down. I did not issue a public surrender. Instead, I used the encrypted dark-web channel Blackwood had left on our servers to send him a single, undeniable invitation.
I am the Architect. You want my empire? Come to New York and take it from my hands. Tomorrow night. The Rainbow Room. Neutral ground.
Sebastian Blackwood was an arrogant man who believed his own myth. He accepted.
The Rainbow Room, perched high above Manhattan, was completely emptied out. I had bought out the entire restaurant for the evening. Elias and twenty heavily armed, undercover operatives were stationed in the kitchens, the elevators, and the service corridors.
I sat at a single table in the center of the sprawling, crystal-lit room. I wore a high-necked, long-sleeved gown of midnight-blue velvet that hugged the curve of my pregnancy, paired with the blinding diamond Arthur had given me. Arthur stood right behind my chair, radiating the lethal energy of an executioner waiting for the nod.
At exactly 9:00 P.M., the private elevator dinged.
Sebastian Blackwood walked into the room. He did not look like a cartel boss. He looked like an aristocrat. He was in his early fifties, with silver hair, piercing gray eyes, and a bespoke suit that cost more than a luxury car. He was flanked by four massive mercenaries.
"Claire Sterling," Blackwood purred, his voice smooth and cultured. He sat down across from me without asking for permission. "I must admit, I admire your audacity. Most people weep when I send them a directive. You booked a dinner reservation."
"I don't weep, Sebastian," I said smoothly, pouring myself a glass of sparkling water. "And I don't negotiate with terrorists."
Blackwood chuckled, a dry, soulless sound. "I am not a terrorist. I am a capitalist. Julian, Alexander, Victoria... they were clumsy fools who failed to deliver the Mercer network to me. Now, I am handling the acquisition personally."
He pulled a thick, encrypted tablet from his jacket and slid it across the table.
"Sign the digital transfer protocols, Claire. Hand over the administrative keys to the logistics mainframe," Blackwood commanded, his eyes turning dead and cold. "If you refuse, my operatives are currently stationed outside your Charleston estate. They will burn it to the ground. And then, I will hunt you and your husband to the ends of the earth."
Arthur’s hand tightened on the back of my chair, but I reached up, gently resting my fingers over his to keep him anchored.
"You want the administrative keys," I said softly, picking up the tablet. "You want to run your weapons and your blood money through my pristine corporate shipping lanes."
"I want the world, Claire. And you are standing in my way."
"Sign it," I whispered.
I typed my absolute, un-hackable administrative password into his tablet and pressed ENTER.
Blackwood smiled, a victorious, greedy smirk. "You made the right choice, little mother."
"Did I?" I asked, leaning back in my chair.
Suddenly, Blackwood’s tablet began to blare a deafening, high-pitched alarm. The screen flashed a brilliant, blinding crimson red.
"What is this?" Blackwood hissed, grabbing the tablet.
"I gave you the keys, Sebastian," I smiled, a slow, predatory expression. "But I didn't give you access to Mercer Holdings. The password you just accepted uploaded a localized, highly aggressive Trojan virus directly into your personal satellite network."
Blackwood’s face drained of every drop of color.
"While you were busy threatening my family," I continued, my voice echoing with absolute authority, "my cyber-team reverse-engineered your connection. I just downloaded your entire dark-web ledger. Every illegal arms deal, every political bribe, every human trafficking route."
"You arrogant bitch," Blackwood snarled, jumping to his feet, signaling his mercenaries.

Before they could draw their weapons, the heavy oak doors of the Rainbow Room burst open. A dozen FBI tactical agents, coordinated by Elias, flooded the room with laser sights trained directly on Blackwood’s chest.
"Checkmate, Sebastian," Arthur whispered.
