Chapter 2 - The Zero-Dollar Exit

He looked afraid because of what was missing.

Evelyn had not asked for half of Holloway Technologies.

She had not asked for the penthouse, the vacation homes, or the art collection.

She had checked a single box on the final page.

Irreconcilable differences with immediate severance of all marital ties.

And she had attached a copy of their prenuptial agreement.

The one Grant’s mother had forced Evelyn to sign eleven years ago.

The one that stated if infidelity was proven, Evelyn would receive absolutely nothing.

Evelyn was walking away with zero dollars.

She wasn’t fighting him.

She was erasing him.

Brooke walked into the study, wearing one of Evelyn’s silk robes.

“Grant, your PR team is calling. They want to know how we should spin this.”

Grant looked up.

“We?”

Brooke smiled, pouring herself a cup of coffee.

“Well, we have to control the narrative. Tell them she was unstable. Or that she abandoned the marriage for Hollywood. My agent says—”

Grant stared at the woman standing in his wife’s robe.

Fourteen months of secret dinners.

Fourteen months of his mother whispering that Brooke was a better fit for the Holloway legacy.

But looking at her now, standing in the ruins of his marriage, Grant felt nothing but sickness.

“Take that robe off.”

Brooke stopped.

“What?”

“Take it off. Pack your things. And get out.”

Brooke’s smile vanished.

“You can’t be serious. She just humiliated you in front of the entire world!”

“She told the truth,” Grant said, his voice deadly quiet. “Get out of my house.”

He didn’t wait to watch her leave.

He grabbed his phone and called his chief of aviation.

“Prep the Gulfstream,” Grant ordered. “We’re flying to Hawaii.”

A commercial flight from New York to Honolulu took eleven hours.

Grant’s private jet took nine.

He was going to beat her there.
