Chapter 5 - The Unbreakable Reign

Three months later, the chaos of our reunion had settled into a beautiful, exhausting rhythm of parenthood.

The estate, once a cold fortress, was now filled with life. Baby monitors sat on mahogany conference tables. Strollers were parked next to armored vehicles in the garage. Adrian’s most fearsome enforcers could frequently be found making funny faces at Eliana when they thought the boss wasn't looking.

One evening, I walked into Adrian’s grand study. He was sitting behind his massive oak desk, reviewing financial ledgers. He looked up the moment I entered, his eyes softening instantly.

I was wearing the same white lace robe I had worn in the clinic. I walked around the desk and slid onto his lap. He dropped his pen immediately, his large, tattooed hands naturally finding my waist, pulling me flush against his chest.

"Shouldn't you be sleeping?" Adrian murmured, burying his face in my neck, inhaling deeply.

"Eliana finally went down," I smiled, running my fingers through his dark hair. "And I missed my husband."

Adrian leaned back, looking at me with an intensity that still took my breath away. He reached into the drawer of his desk and pulled out a thick stack of papers.

"What is that?" I asked.

"The annulment of our divorce," Adrian said simply. "Signed by the finest judges in Illinois. Legally, the past six months never happened. You never stopped being my wife."

Tears pricked my eyes as I looked at the documents. It was a symbolic gesture, but in Adrian’s world, symbols were everything.

"I don't need a piece of paper to know I'm yours," I whispered.

"I know," Adrian replied, his thumb brushing a tear from my cheek. "But I need the world to know it. I spent six months living in a hell of my own making, believing it was the only way to keep you breathing. I will never make that mistake again."

He pulled me into a deep, consuming kiss. It tasted of whiskey, promises, and the unyielding strength of a man who had conquered a city just to earn the right to hold me.

"No more hiding," Adrian vowed against my lips.

"No more hiding," I agreed.

I had run from the darkness, terrified of the monster the world believed Adrian to be. But sitting in his arms, in the heart of his empire, I finally understood the truth. He wasn't the monster hiding in the dark. He was the king who controlled it, and he had laid all of it at my feet.
