Chapter 13 - The Structural SabotageYou do not build an empire without casting a shadow, and our shadow had attracted a monster with infinite capital.

Forty-eight hours later, disaster struck. I was in the war room of Vantage Design, reviewing the final concrete supply chain logistics, when my site manager called. He was hyperventilating.
"Lauren, you need to get down here right now," he panicked over the roar of heavy machinery in the background. "A city inspector just arrived. He’s backed by a dozen local police officers. They just issued a catastrophic stop-work order."
The air completely evacuated my lungs. "On what grounds?!"
"He’s claiming the geological core samples were falsified. He says the foundation trenches are non-compliant with coastal zoning laws and structurally compromised. He chained the gates, Lauren. The cement trucks are literally sitting on the highway, and the concrete is going to cure inside the drums if we don't pour within four hours!"
If the trucks didn't pour, the foundation would be ruined. If the foundation was ruined, we missed the deadline. If we missed the deadline, the phased loan disbursement would freeze, and Victor Sterling would legally seize my company.
"Do not let those trucks leave!" I commanded, slamming the phone down.
Carter walked into the room, instantly sensing the apocalyptic shift in the atmosphere. "What happened?"
"Victor bought a city inspector," I said, my voice trembling with a dark, terrifying rage. The accommodating woman of my past was gone; the wartime CEO had arrived. "He engineered a fake stop-work order to deliberately bankrupt us."

"I’ll call our lawyers," Carter said, pulling out his phone. "We can file for an emergency federal injunction."
"No," I stopped him, grabbing my coat. "A federal injunction takes forty-eight hours. The concrete cures in four. Victor wants to play in the mud? Fine. Let’s go bury him."
