Chapter 19 - The Architect of LiesThe annual Omni-Media Investor Gala was held at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. It was an ultra-exclusive, closed-door event designed to project an image of untouchable tech supremacy.

I did not sneak in. I arrived in a black armored Maybach.

I stepped out of the car wearing a backless, sweeping gown of liquid-silver sequins that moved like shattered glass. I looked like absolute, terrifying power. Carter walked beside me in a razor-sharp Tom Ford tuxedo, radiating the lethal, protective energy of a king defending his queen.

The ambient chatter in the grand hall died down instantly as we walked through the heavy brass doors. The sea of Silicon Valley billionaires parted. They recognized me from the viral KOC campaign that had just broken the internet.

I spotted him immediately. Julian Thorne stood near the champagne fountain, wearing a black turtleneck and a smug, aristocratic smirk. He was holding court with a group of venture capitalists.

When he saw me, his confident smile froze completely. He knew his smear campaign had failed, but he clearly didn't expect me to cross the country to face him.

"Lauren," Julian purred, recovering his composure quickly, though his eyes darted nervously to Carter. "I must admit, I didn't expect you to attend. I assumed you would be busy doing damage control on your crumbling little beach house."

"I don't do damage control, Julian. I do demolition," I said smoothly, stopping three feet away from him. My voice projected clearly over the silent, echoing room.

"Security," Julian snapped, his face flushing. "Remove them. They are trespassing."

Carter stepped forward, his towering frame instantly intimidating Julian’s bodyguards. "I wouldn't do that. The perimeter of this venue is currently surrounded by a dozen federal agents from the cyber-crimes division."

Julian scoffed, though a microscopic bead of sweat formed on his brow. "You’re bluffing. You have no proof of anything."

I reached into my silver clutch and pulled out a sleek, encrypted tablet. I tapped the screen once, illuminating the unredacted internal ledgers Elias had pulled from his servers, and held it up for Julian to see.

Julian looked at the screen. The color completely and utterly drained from his face. The untouchable media magnate shattered in a microsecond.

"You see, Julian," I smiled, my eyes hardening into chips of diamond. "While you were busy buying cheap, rejected traffic to spread lies in the mud, I built a viral empire in the sky. And while your servers were distracted by our virtual KOC, my team walked right through your firewalls. I have your invoices. I have the emails outlining your strategy to exploit the algorithmic loopholes. You didn't just try to steal my property. You committed federal wire fraud and massive corporate sabotage."

"You... you hacked my servers," Julian hissed, his hands trembling violently.

"I didn't hack them. I audited them," I corrected softly, stepping entirely into his personal space. "At 8:00 P.M. tonight, I forwarded these ledgers to the SEC, the FBI, and the board of directors of Omni-Media Holdings."

The heavy oak doors of the gala burst open.

A team of federal agents in dark tactical suits marched directly through the crowd of horrified tech elites.

"Julian Thorne!" the lead agent barked, flashing his badge. "You are under arrest for corporate espionage, wire fraud, and market manipulation."

Julian didn't fight. He was completely paralyzed by the sheer, devastating speed of his own destruction. As the agents snapped heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists, he shot one last, venomous look at me.

"You haven't won," Julian spat as they dragged him away.

"I won the moment you thought you could break my foundation," I replied coldly, turning my back on him.
